Topic: Implicating iphone -> apple_(copyright)

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

apple_(copyright) is an existing tag

Though the company qualifier does narrow it down pretty well

I just find the wording of it awkward personally, possibly apple_(brand), I don't know.

why even tag apple as a company at all? We phased out hasbro, and sony and microsoft only have a few tags each. Nintendo I can understand, since it has such a distinct culture behind it, but other than that I don't really see the use of tagging companies such as this.

I agree with this. I mean, who'd search for just a company? And since we've a precident for removing company tags, it just makes more sense to blam the tag.

You don't need copyright stuff if you're not profiteering from it.

Which is absolutely not the point of this discussion, hence is irrelevant. The question is whether the tag is used enough to justify it being a tag to begin with. Though of course, if it REALLY is made by the apple company, or deliberately references the company (as opposed to the products) then it would need it as well, but at this point, the iPhone stands by itself (not to mention that unless specifically shown with the UI it is almost indistinguishable from some of the current gen smartphones anyway.

On which note I'm going to clean that up a bit...

'Blam'ing the tag, as Mechaniatrix put it, would not be a smart thing to do, imo.

While implicating apple_(copyright) to iphone is kind of silly (by rights making the existing ipod/ipad -> apple_(copyright) implications silly as well), this does not invalidate the need to do a tag search for posts relating to the Apple company.
Disallowing the means to search for posts relating to it is like saying the Apple company doesn't exist, or does not deserve its' own tag.
