I say no because of the simple fact that earring isn't necessary. Yes, people can tag earring types like hoop or stud, but they don't. And even if they decided to start, you don't need an earring tag to do so. Ear_piercing pertains to the fact that the ear is pierced, whereas earring points to there being jewelry in the ear, which is unneeded.

piercing
ear_piercing
industrial_piercing
gauged_ear (work in progress)

These are all we need regarding ear piercings.

Makes sense, although Riversyde does make a good point about them being distinct

Those who dislike traditional lobe piercings for whatever reason could always blacklist those latter 2 tags.
We'd be counting on everyone to tag them in consistently though

My own opinion is that there are too many types of jewelry to deal with tags for them all, and really the best option is to keep it to types of piercing. There are hoops, studs, danglies, barbells, spikes, captive-bead rings, pins, paperclips, bones, wood, etcetcetc. I think it gets unnecessarily specific. We should stick with tags that tell you where it is, and maybe what kind (i.e. industrial for single jewelry through multiple holes, guaged_ears, frenum_ladder).
