I assume you're referring to avatars. They're a new thing.
You can get one (or disable them completely) by following the instructions on your user settings page.

I don't know why people post random thumbs as comments, some think it's funny, some do it to erk others.

Yes, this is what I mean

I am ridiculously glad I'm not the only person that saw that. Also, OP, why do you care? It's not like every single 'completely irrelevant' image posted comes out and punches you in the face. Just ignore them if they annoy you.

Does my tactical use of the word erk erk you? He was a jerk and now we use his name synonymously with annoy or bother.
As for posting image comments, most I've seen are well played and have the cool visual effect. Random images are done just to ERK you. Like Snowy's comment was made just to ERK me

It's just some what annoying to see the same image on every other picture I look at.

Erk may also refer to Erk
As for the topic, you have three options:

Blacklist reaction_image

Know what's more fun than reaction images?
Broken reaction image links.

C'mon, Blaziken, the guy brings up a reasonable point. Maybe as a future feature, Admin could work on a way to toggle off image previews in the comments?

His 'point' is whining about something completely inconsequential.

It's inconsequential to you. It's evidently not to him. I find them memetic and annoying, took. I ignore them, but I wouldn't mind a way to blacklist some of them.
If someone makes a good suggestion, it's a bit rude to just write them off as "whining."

I did not know that tag existed. That's handy! Will it work in comments?

The only place it won't work is avatars but if you check "apply blacklist to avatars" then it works everywhere. And reaction helps in addition to reaction image. If the problem is still knotting someones panties then find the user(s) posting these types of comments and add them to your blacklist too. It'll hide their comments

It does indeed!
Good advice, also, Rainbow Slash. I don't tend to mind reactions via words. I just have this thing against memes. ;) I can ignore it and mostly have for a long time, but hey... if there's a way not to see it, why not?
Hopefully this will work for Nevan, too, since he (or she) was the one who was initially having the difficulty!
