Old post, but I'm pretty sure that fchan is only still around because the name makes sense and is easy to remember. It's pretty ridiculous that it exists, and I really can't think of any other reason.

That's not the point. Internet Explorer was the most popular then and it no longer is. The results you posted are inconsequential because of FA's use of robots.txt. There are many pages that will not show up in search because of that.
