Topic: Need to start adding gender tags

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

I think Its time we started talking about the amount of post uploaded daily that do not have gender tags.. I am trying the best I can to fix them but I am overwhelmed by them every time I fix one there are three more in its place I see tons of people commenting on them but nobody doing anything about it. I am not blaming the mods for this because I know they are busy with the rest of the Site. I just think it would be nice if more people would try to pitch in alittle

Please add genders to your posts.

You have a very interesting notion of once seeing as you tagged the gender twice on your first fifty uploads.

On topic, 407 pages displayed for me, that will take some time.
(And there are still a couple dozen images uploaded by mario583 without gender)

Don't forget that neuter is a gender too.

Removal of balls and/or uterus and/or ovaries is a gender?

For our purposes (nobody really cares about the actual XX/XY chromosome sets of fictional characters' cells), yes. Also, under e621's definition of neuter, all genitals must be explicitly absent for a character to qualify; you're probably thinking of castration.

WOOO fixed 3 pages worth of images. Tagging is satisfying isn't it?

Necro, necro, oi oi oi!

You are doing it wrong, but let me explain.

First of all, genderless is not a valid tag.
The tag that comes closest to genderless is neuter with the difference being that this tag is only for characters who have visibly no gender.
So, not for characters you are not sure if they have a gender but only for character who have no gender. The best examples are either someone who had his genitals surgically removed, wasn't born with them or was created without gender (homunculus, golem, elementals and the like).

With that we come to the next point, gender tags are only used for characters. A post has no characters in it, it doesn't get gender tags.
Which means posts like
this and this or this aren't allowed to have a single gender tag.
Characters are essentially everything that is "living" in one way or another. This includes Humans, animals, elementals, golems, robots and the likes.
Is it animated, has some sort of "life" in it or even a consciousness? It is a character.
Is it a rock, a bottle or even a castle? Not a character.

The next thing, gender tags are exclusive. It either is a male, female, herm, maleherm, dickgirl, cuntboy or neuter or it is ambiguous_gender.
The reason behind this is simple. The character(s) in question either visibly have one of the defined genders, or it is unknown to us what gender the character is and thus gets the ambiguous_gender tag.
Titaniachkt made a really nifty wiki for gendertagging purposes. You can find that piece of awesome here.

Like I said, ambiguous_gender is our I-have-no-idea-what-the-hell-that-thing-is Tag.

And now with that wall of text above there is still something (the last thing) important left to say.
The gender tags project is NOT supposed to be empty ever.

Ok, there seems to be a lot of things going on in here at once

First, and most importantly, gender tagging projects are usually very welcome! Since there's usually a number of posts that manage to slip past the front page with no gender tags on them

However, just as NotMeNotYou said (and nobody seemed to acknowledge), adding invalid, non-established tags to posts en masse, as well as adding gender tags to posts with no characters (hence, no genders) present is something that really should be avoided, since established gender tags already exist

There are 7 main gender tags currently (2012) in use:

male
female
herm
maleherm
cuntboy
ambiguous gender
And neuter

Also, as previously mentioned, posts with no animate characters present, such as post #142492, post #259731 don't get any gender tags, even if they're based on actual, living characters with a gender
-

All of this does bring up a good point though; maybe there should be a tag to use for posts with no characters present (i.e. no genders) at all, similar to the no_humans tag used on certain boorus

Some examples of its use could include:
