Topic: tired of all these M.Sherman pics

Posted under Art Talk

Why do you even bother with this whole preservation act to begin with? The guy's art sucked then, it sucks now (with no chance of becoming better since he's dead), I'm not sure if anything of value would be lost if it were to disappear off the net.

And that'll never happen anyway, since nothing ever truly does. Bet someone else has had it all stored on some server for years.

It just seems like so much effort on your part for, well, what really?

Probably the same reason I've uploaded stuff from digiartistsdomain - nostalgia value. And IMO not all of M.Sherman's art is as bad as those kimba comics, though it may just be fetishes I like and my nostalgia instead of quality.
Besides it's easy to criticize others mass uploads when you already have upload limit of 174 :P

Which I happen to have reached without any mass uploads. :P

But I'm not criticizing him, just wondering what pushes him to do this, because it's obviously a huge undertaking that isn't even rewarding. All you get for your trouble is people badmouthing you for spamming crappy art.

In that sense, this reminds me a bit of that infamous Eroboros period. Don't get me wrong, Treos isn't nearly as spammy about it (but then again the art's worse).

Sometimes it's hard to stop uploading when you started. Few days ago I said to myself that I'm going upload some pics of cham cham. I though that I'll only find 10, maybe 20 worth uploading (like with fuurin_rei. It escalated quickly. And I still have about 50 on disk waiting to be uploaded. I'm surprised that nobody complains about this.

And M.Sherman pics are not really that downvoted most of them are either 0, or slightly above it and several favorites. It's not like he's uploading for nobody.

Well, as you said: artist is dead. So there's no chance for takedown.

Well, guess that's true. Though the same held true for those Eroboros pics, and having some people like them didn't really make it any less annoying to see your own posts get shoved off the first page within ten minutes by a biblical proportions onslaught of fat-Pikachu-with-a-bowtie doodles.

Though just to reiterate, this doesn't come near that average level of posts per day (and especially the amounts posted at once), so it's not really comparable. But the amount of shit you get in the comments is.

Well, as you said: artist is dead. So there's no chance for takedown.

Yeah, about that: how did you ever manage to get so many uploads with only 16 ever getting deleted? That's just unheard of, nobody else has been able to do that. I'm honestly kinda astonished. :P

Like, nobody could tell me I haven't been pretty careful about it (always searching for the highest-res version, checking artist/owner pages for redistribution disclaimers and even contacting some, referencing our own takedown section etc...), yet I still ended up reaching 60 yesterday. Was actually able to keep it down to 30 until recently, but lately the takedowns have just been racking up for some reason. =/

It's just a number and pretty meaningless, but it's annoying to see it grow this fast. Makes me look sloppy or something...

Besides checking disclaimers, avoid posting list and status:deleted reasons for deletion I have few heuristics.

I try to upload mainly artist that are on the site.
I mainly upload rule34/fan art.
I try to not upload commisions/gifts/art trades or pics with very original characters. Every mention of someone else besides artist on submission page increases the chance of future takedown exponentially.
I try to avoid furaffinity.

The downside of this is that my best upload has score equal to 88, and average score is about 11.

Actually several days ago I had 20 deleted posts fortunately smitty_g is no longer on DNP list grumblepluck was never on DNP list.

Edit:
If we're already talking about astonishing things then I made a calculation: Robinebra uploaded 23098 pics. He joined 4 years ago. That means that he uploaded on average 15 pictures per day since he joined the site. It's like 1 picture per 2 hour, or 1 picture per hour assuming that he has some sleep.

Don't believe his lies, it's obviously black magic and sacrifices made to the Dark Lords.

On the note of deletion, ask me how it is when you get written permission from an artist to upload their stuff, and then they do a 180 a year later and want stuff taken down they "never gave permission to have it reposted".
I still want to bitch slap that guy.
Besides that a lot of my deletions are because some things were fixed in the images and I don't mind racking up deletions if it means we get an even better image in exchange.

i definately know how that feels. -_- the darn number never seems to drop far below 1k before MORE of these stupid pics pop up or someone goes and points out yet more that aren't dupes (it's back down to 987 remaining now but i bet sooner or later someone is going to go and find even more and just add onto it...again). after around 2.5 months of uploading these weekly i'm sick of it. if no one else wants to take over on this i'll just zip this folder and stick that somewhere (think google would have any problems with this stuff sitting on someones google drive?).

16 deletions out of 2373 uploads, my record is good but it's not that good. that's incredible

anyway, think i may go back to something everyone likes after i sort this out. something like taking care of bvats pics. well...all except those that are so obscure that no source comes up or those that wind up being so tall/wide that the stupid pic goes beyond e621's resolution limits.

chop your darn comic strips into smaller chunks people. that's ridiculous having ONE comic that goes beyond even superabsurd_res. those stupid things won't fit the upload function. lol thankfully that particular type of large scale bvats doesn't happen all that often.

Heh, true dat. I'm never sure what to do when both the chopped and unchopped version are uploaded. :V

I'd recommend mega.co.nz. It's been ridiculously reliable for me and doesn't seem to have those weird ads/malware/scammy feelings that I've see on other sites like it. Grab a free account to keep track of your uploads. :P

Is there a way to download anything from mega.co.nz without getting error and suggestion to get their addon?

Well Treos, whatever you do, know I do admire your determination even if I find the cause a bit questionable. :)

Btw, I've seen more than a few (drawn) porn collections on Google Drive pages, so I don't think that what you propose would be much of an issue, even with the weird human x feral cub material. Though Mega's indeed better for chucking stuff into massive .zip files.

Ah, playing it safe then, huh? :P

Wish I could do that, at the very least it would make tagging/sourcing a lot quicker (love R34 material for that). But I usually come across too many good commissioned fursona art that I just can't resist uploading.

Though on a somewhat similar note I do tend to avoid large group pics, since getting all the character tags right* can be a huge pita, and 50% of the time there will be at least one character in there that's owned by some overly protective person who eventually issues a takedown, even if they only hold like 1/12th ownership over the image.

* I hate having to let people go unnamed, for obvious on-site searching reasons, but also because I feel that showing to owners you're handling their characters with attention and care will prevent some takedowns. No way of proving it, but it's a gut feeling.

Yeah, he cray cray yo. Though he's also the undisputed king of mass rating:safe pony uploads from DeviantArt galleries, so that explains at least a little bit of his speed.

There are a few people on here who've gathered such high amounts of uploads and tag edits in such short periods of time, that you do worry about the state of their lives a bit. Not my business of course, but it makes you wonder. They have to have been on E6 almost constantly.

Dude, I sincerely hope that never happens to me. That's just unfair.

Oh, I have zero problems with that happening too, let there be no mistake. Having the best quality art here is paramount. I myself am responsible for quite a few cases of posts getting deleted on uploaders because I found a superior version, so I'm not going to whine if it happens to me (well, perhaps unless the difference is so small it becomes trivial).

Thing is, the vast bulk of my 60 deletions have been artist/owner takedowns.

I don't have this issue, but I know it has problems with Safari/IE due to some missing functions in those browsers. The site is specifically designed with Chrome in mind, but Firefox works as well (I don't know about Opera).

It doesn't work for me on firefox. File is 510 MB, after 39% download completed it tells me that for files bigger than 1GB I need addon. I've just tried with IE and succeeded, so apparently mega just hates firefox.

chopped comics make a pool or series of parent/child pics probably.

as for the mega suggestion. what doesn't get uploaded there? but yeah, guess i can go make a free account there real quick. turns out that's 78.6MB of pics zipped.

download manager, i have one somewhere... try this just click add links up at the top and copy/paste the link(s) into the window that pops up (1 link per line as it says in said window) then hit add. it's easy to use.

goodness, theres certainly more security on MEGA compared to mega upload. register, confirm email, confirm password AFTER confirming email, private key code...and the free account is 50GB vs google drive's 15gb, wow.

oh and i have NMNY to thank for helping to remove a good chunk of those pics early on. cleared all the dupes and particularly bad pics and dodged a neg rating in the process. :)

upload finished, link moved to OP above.

Sorry for going off-topic here, but why the heck did the site fail to recognize I was uploading a duplicate of something posted just minutes before? It's supposed to intercept those.

well, assuming it goes by that string of random numbers and letters that replaces the file name when uploaded, those 2 pics could've had that happen due to differing file names or something.

also, why is the pic Tuck_In_Those_Glutes uploaded have its thumbnail saying blacklisted for me when neither pic seems to have any tags in them that i have on my blacklist. oh wait, scratch that, it's that octopus tattoo that was setting it off.

edit: one more thing. i just noticed the difference in file size despite those being identical in appearance, format, and resolution. what's making your dupe bigger by 57.9kb?

Updated by anonymous

I don't quite see why Sherman didn't spend twice the time on each drawing and made half as many but probably much better, I just feel like he could have done much better if he wanted (as some pictures may tell).

Seems Treos beat me to it...: Sorry, for continuing off topic talk: I wonder why Maldu uploaded one version to his tumblr and one to his FA, with a minuscule quality difference... But I don't think e6 actually looks at the picture itself, it just compares binary checksums, maybe that would be a nice feature for the upload page, or just an automated iqdb.harry.lu request, if @yesthebest is all right with that, or set up our own iqdb database.

post #677000 has subsampling and Jug's post #67709 doesn't. It's not really enough to affect quality but it is technically very slightly better quality (very slightly). I could go either way with it.

I don't like to criticize artwork, but damn that guy sucks at drawing. And the included dialogue is an affront to my retinas. I wouldn't mind if people just forgot to upload the rest of his stuff...

don't forget the handwriting. a lot of times his H's look like N's.

criticizing is ok so long as it's constructive. ;) then again, with the artist in question being dead and all, that's kinda difficult.

don't forget the pools and all the bestiality stuff. -_- i have no problem with interspecies stuff or anything (it happens in nature all the time. it's just humans thinking they're better than ferals or some such that have a problem with it. note: in a whole lot of ways humans are QUITE inferior.) but...i don't really like humans and his art was full of pics like that.

:/ honestly, those were 2 of the reasons i was moving the pics here. just to get them off my computer as it's not something i want to risk someone accidentally finding on my laptop some day. >.> that's one conversation i hope to never have with my aunt and uncle here. granted, the whole furry thing alone would probably be a bit embarrassing but it wouldn't be near as bad as these 2 topics.
