@Ko-san I was just trying not to be specific, there are some who really blur the lines and then there are the ones who I would consider different. HOWEVER Cloppers are furrys there is no denying. If you fap to horses your a furry nuff said.

I was more referring to furrys=bronys not bronys=furries

I agree, bronies are to furries as squares are to rectangles. But that's true of almost all slightly-more-focused interests, like how I'm a bigger fan of dragon/scalie anthros than any others, but that doesn't mean I'm not into furries in general.

Squares to Rectangles is the perfect analogy, thank you.

It started when I fell in love with Carmelita fox in the game Sly Cooper.

I was always a sci-fi / fantasy nerd who loved uniqueness. I mean, who wouldn't want to be a magical creature or a member of an alien race the made humans look like wimps?
Not too long after learning that sex was a thing, I started thinking about what I'd do if an extraterrestrial chick had the hots for me. I figured if she was a good person, turning her down just because of her species would be a total dick move.
Then in middle school I did a school project on dragons and back then if you typed dragon into the google image search you got mostly somewhat erotic anthro dragon art. Similar logic applied with the added bonus that dragons are friggin awesome. I was... intrigued...
And it all snowballed from there.
Now, I'm still not into most anthros any more than I'm into regular humans (gasp), but dragons, demons, and other dangerous creatures really do it for me.
That doesn't surprise me considering how much I value skill, strength, and prowess on the battlefield. I'm old fashioned like that. Very old fashioned...
Praise Odin! Valhalla!

You were...greatly mislead, then. Ponies from MLP are not furries. Furries are anthro's, whereas they walk on two legs, talk like a human, act like humans, and so on. Ponies are not anthro's, whereas they do NOT do anything that humans do. Sure you can say they speak like humans do, but they're created by artists for people to watch, therefore they HAVE to speak like us. Not only that, they're mythical creatures, so for all we know they originally do speak like humans. Either way, MLP Ponies are more of a fan base, which is why they're called Bronies and not Furries. If you were to draw one of them in a Anthro state, I still don't technically consider them Furries because they're mythical creatures, and Furries are more real-world animals in Anthro form, where as Ponies are in stories. imho.

@Rayzr, you're right, although I know a lot of furry that were initially into mlp stuff and found out about furry afterward, so it seems it is a bit of a door into the fandom.

Not really - in the show they do a lot of things that humans do, but real horses don't. Like eating sandwiches, sleeping in bed, living in towns, going to school, etc.

I also see no problem with including people with certain interest in not fully anthrofied animals as a part of furry fandom.

I never thought of the difference thinking of them as feral. That probably explains why there is so much horsecock around lately even on non-mlp.

This is actually somewhat supported by:

mlp - 516 pages
mlp feral - 299 pages (58% feral)
mlp anthro - 122 pages (24% anthro)

fox - 288 pages
fox feral - 21 pages (7% feral)
fox anthro - 202 pages (70% anthro)

mammal -mlp - 1786 pages
mammal feral -mlp - 170 pages (10% feral)
mammal anthro -mlp - 1037 pages (58% anthro)

Notice the proportions between fox and mammal are fairly similar.

I've met people like that as well. I think it's because the MLP fandom consider themselves "Furries", especially the ones that only look at MLP stuff and not actual Furry things, then that person looks up what a "furry" is and blah blah blah.

Again, it's a cartoon. There are a ton of cartoons that pose this kind of behavior with animals and other creatures, but that does not mean they are furries. They're simply cartoon characters that were given characteristics. A few good examples are Happy Tree Friends, Pokemon, and Skunk-Fu. Just because they're animals that do human things doesn't make them a "Furry". Furries are Anthro's. Ponies are feral ( If "feral" is the right term ).

A very good point. Thanks for pointing this out.

Another way to put what I'm saying is that Furries were created with people's minds. Nobody took a cartoon, slapped it on the internet and called it a "Furry". People thought about it, started a small fandom over it, and it grew with the sole idea of animals being more humanlike, so taking Ponies, slapping them on the internet and calling them Furries isn't going to work. It's still just a fandom.

Also, just so everyone knows, I have no intention of creating an argument or fuss here, this is merely my opinion and my opinion only which I'm happy to discuss with you, so if you're going to reply to me about this, please be sane, sober, and generally not a douche.

I'm not really sure if one fandom can really be considered the source of the other. I've seen quite a few bronies who don't like being considered as furries and vice versa.

I think it's because bronies all get into the fandom from the same source (MLP, obviously) but furries have a much more diverse list of sources leading them to the furry fandom (cartoons, movies, etc featuring anthros) that makes the difference.

To me the main draw to one side or the other is the nature of the content. Content produced by both fandoms are of very high quality but while the furry fandom has more variety, due to the wider selection of source material, the brony fandom focuses more on a select few characters which they have a strong connection with.

Obviously there are good and bad points to both, and there are people who do consider themselves a member of both fandoms, but I consider myself a furry. I don't dislike MLP, I'm just not very interested in it (although I can see the appeal).

I like this post so I'll jump in :D
I've always liked animals (I did projects on birds, canines, and marine mammals in elementary school) and growing up I found myself having crushes on characters like Minerva Mink, Krystal, and Rouge the Bat.
After finding out what yiff was in 5th grade and discovering the beautiful world of furry porn, I declared myself a furry in 2006. (Though I was really always one I suppose)

I grew up watching a lot of Pokemon and Digimon so, when I eventually found out that hentai and rule 34 was a thing I got curious about what Misty and Jesse would look like fucking which lead to seeing them fucking Pokemon which lead to Pokemon on Pokemon which then lead to more original furry porn. I quickly fell in love with the art and imagination that people managed to produce.

Well, so much for the cut-off date thing at the start of the thread.

What got me into furries? Uhhhhh I have no idea, really. It's something that sort of seeped into my life and became a part of it. Probably because of all those cartoons starring animals.
According to my parents, I was a fan of Max & Ruby, though I cannot for the life of me remember watching it as a child. (But then again, I hardly remember anything from back then)

Since the thread was revived anyway.

My story started around 4 years ago in a mod of half life 2, it was called zombie master, for some odd coincidence the first server i picked was full of fun people and they were having fun, i decided to keep on playing on that server and often times people would spray furry porn on the wall of the game, at first i got shocked but after awhile i got curious and since everyone there was quite nice i think i ended up adhering to the community.

I've stopped playing zombie master for quite awhile now, but i won't forget that little server called zFc.

For me it all started in 2009. I came across a Newgrounds animations called $upah Nin10doh, which has anthro Pokemon porn in it. Also I watched a YouTube video called "Elliot Goes to School". Which mentions Furries. Annnnd by not knowing what a furry was at the time, I search it in deviant art. Quickly after all this I became a furry. Did I mention that I was only 12 at the time?

In other words... you're 17?

Not necessarily. If he was born on some date before today's date in 1996, and the search in question happened between Jan 1 and his birthday in 2009, he would have been 12 then and 18+ now.

However.

If he was born on Jan 2 1996, and did the search on Jan 1 2009, he would have been 12 years 11 months 30 days old (so barely still 12). This establishes a lower bound for his date of birth, and an upper bound on his age (an upper bound for DOB/lower bound on age would be a DOB of 12/31/1997, performing the search on his 12th birthday (new year's eve of 2009)). He registered on Sept 18 2013. His age on that date must have between 15 years 8 months 18 days and 17 years 8 months 16 days. (Given the username, I'm inclined to suspect that he was 16 at the time)

Although he may be over 18 now, he wasn't when he registered. Admins, ready your banhammers and your time machines.

Y'all do have time machines, right?

Drew porn of Mewtwos having sex when I was about ten or eleven. Though I didn't really have familiarity with porn, just the general gist of sex and anatomy from sex ed. Though I did have a pokemon comic with a picture of Asuka from Evangelion in her red suit on the back, which helped for reference. Not entirely sure of the time frame.

First furry site I finally found around twelve or thirteen years old was foxxfire.com which was pretty awesome for a first furry porn site.

After a while of searching at thirteen years old I made my way to IRC on EFnet, found FXC/FXA where a lot of content was being distributed. Started accepting being more than simply straight not long after.

Next stop was Second Life, then f-chat, and now I'm more of an observer and RP'er when I get the mood and chance to do so.

Wasn't really a progression in terms of going from one porn to another, just always something I liked in one way or another.

First it started off with normal porn, then hentai, then rule 34 of characters like Elastigirl & Power Girl, then things like Rouge the Bat, Cheetara, Callie Briggs. Ya know, the usual shit. :/ Eventually I found this site, and my love for furry awesomeness has just kinda grown since then. ^-^

The childhood discovery and love of Pokémon, an initial disgust for Rule 34, the lack of fucks I gave, the eventual immersion into pornography, and the discovery of e621.

In that order.

Overall, the key for me being where I am right now is Lucario.

Gardevoir, which is funny, cause I don't really like Gardevoir much any more.
I have always like anthropomorphic characters more than normal ones in video games and anime.

I was into Lola Bunny, Rouge the Bat, and other characters as a kid. When puberty the shovel hit me, I started to see them in a different way. I really wanted to know what they would look like naked and thankfully broadband was coming along and I had just ditched dial-up so I got on the Internet and the game changed forever.

That's how I discovered the furry fandom and how I also discovered I'm really attracted to anthropomorphic animals, both guys and gals. I don't know what it is exactly but I just think it's amazing how sexy they can be.

Porn aside, the furry fandom is pretty wonderful even if it's crazy. Although I suppose every fandom is crazy.
