Topic: Anyone have any hobbies outside the fandom?

Posted under Off Topic

Ok so, as my name suggests, outside the fandom, and being a dragon, I play and enjoy insturmental music and preformence on the Clarinet, and also Tenor Saxophone, I feel it is a really beautiful art form... but before I ramble, I just want to know what your hobbies or likes are.

Updated by Lance Armstrong

I know its all too common but I play video games, I dabble in drawing, ill practice poetry, and sometimes even narrate a novel, though I haven't had the insane time to do that lately.

Updated by anonymous

Playing video games, drawing (traditional art) and most of the time listening music.

I cook, workout, play video games, video editing, draw and voice acting/animation. I also skate for a living

what kinds of music do you prefer, and what kinds do you dislike?
personally electronic and trance, and a little dubstep are nice, but country music and gangster rap are intolerable, while only a few select metal, and clean rap are okay to me. Everything else is fine.

Let's see: being a nerd, being a nerd, being a nerd, being a nerd and being a nerd. Did I mentioned being a nerd?

But really, I'm a nerd. I do some electronics, stuff in HTML/Javascript, fiddle with my phone (doing some of the HTML/JS stuff as apps), and write scripts. Sometimes (not really often) I try other stuff, like music or drawing.

Oh, I play videogames and listen to music too.

In order of preference, my faves are rock (mostly gothic rock), metal and techno/trance, I'm ok with everything else except for reggaeton which is the only type of music I've never liked.

Charcoal drawings, some gaming (mostly Pokemon), watching horror movies, and smoking pot.

If someone *didn't* have any hobbies outside the fandom, I'd be more than kinda worried for that person.

Like pretty much everyone so far, videogames is a big one. I'm also pretty big into taxidermy! As it stands I only collect various cool nick-knacks, but one day I hope to get some lessons!
I also have a good collection of masks and hats going. Yeah, my place has been described as eccentric looking.

I also enjoy urban exploration, whenever I can! It can be tough in London because abandoned places get locked down pretty hard. I did manage to discover an abandoned tram station, from back when London actually had trams.

Huh. I didn't really peg you for a stoner.

I usually go up into Colorado with some friends to do it. (Mostly during vacations) But most of the stuff we smoke comes from California. Legal weed in Washington and Colorado is EXPENSIVE.

Tons of people smoke it. I couldn't imagine smoking every day, though. My weed budget would nearly be equal to my food budget.

Which would probably triple if I smoked pot daily.

Wake up, eat cereal, go to school, play guitar/keytar/uke/whatever thing makes noise, attempt for like 5 minutes to make music, realize i can't imitate certain sound and give up, practice violin for orchestra, watch youtube vidyas, play vidya games, drink till it hurts, curl up in shower, cry self to sleep. Rinse, wash, repeat.
I also fuck bitches and get money, but that's becoming a rarity nowadays.

Updated by anonymous

I attempt to write fan-fiction, play vidya games, swim ALOT, and fiddle around with electronics (cell phones, telephones, radioes, game systems, PCs, ect)

Well, I collect things. Mostly diecast cars, and the like. However, I'm an avid gamer, and my skills helped me acquire two extremely rare cars in GTA V, the Sabre Turbo and the Imponte Phoenix. I build model kits, too.

I like programming stuff, and I have been doing so since I was 12. I began with FreeBASIC, and since then I've switched to Java (I f*cking love Java), JavaScript, PHP (not to build websites, but as a quick prototyping language), C and C++, and also Bash on my Android when I am REALLY bored (yes, I am one of those nerds that have a Shell terminal on my phone)

I began programming in Java when a friend who ran a Bukkit server wanted a countdown for New Year. Since then, I've ran my own server, made half a dozen (some of them not public, like that one which allows me to crash clients :P) and improved a dozen of them.

I like also electronics and I'm building my own Nixie clock, which is going to automatically sinchronize using an internet connection and a NTP server.

Basically I am the average engineer, but without the engineering degree. Yet.

Wow, I cut down trees and burn them to survive the winter.
I do a lot more than that, but Lizardite's projects sound even more impressive now, don't they.?Not to imply that they weren't to begin with

I collect coins. Reading and playing video games are some other hobbies I have as well.

i draw, i play video games, i run couple of crappy blogs and i ride horses (riding as in sitting on their back)

I watch anime and read discussions for tech news articles to pass the time. Also, I read a few weird fiction anthologies to rapidly increase my exposure to the literary world. I want more Thomas Ligotti and Hanns Heinz Ewers :). The video games that I do play are more like exceptions than rules, but they get significant time commitments. No game has been as satisfying or deep as UT3, which I still play with a small, dedicated group of ~12 veterans when I can (concurrent player count should be less than 100).

If I could, I would stay in school indefinitely and take all the technical courses available. For my program, I took networking and security courses supplemented with some business and communications courses. There's something immensely satisfying about being about to recall 95% of certain textbooks for a month or so, but the pain involved in reaching those heights was equally immense. Call it a "dream hobby."

Not to hijack the thread, but I wonder what you guys would end up building... I remember seeing someone built one of the MLP characters with a beacon for the eyes.

Shooting sports, though recently I've been busy with other things as I move platforms. Also firearm collecting and appraisal, as well as research. Also play BF4, WoW and tinker/build random things/avs/objects on second life for meager profit. Edit: Oh, and a connoisseur of fine single malt and cigars.

Is that a good enough reason to put up a MC server? C'mon, it could be pretty cool seeing what our perverted minds would create.
PS: I'll blow up any and all pony stuff that I find with TNT.

If we do an e621 minecraft server, you wouldn't be able to acquire enough TNT to hinder the inevitable MLP invasion.

I do a bit of programming and I've dabbled a bit in robotics. Since I'm pretty much retired I don't really do any of that much and spend most of my time sitting around doing nothing or gaming.

Yesterday I was also thinking in re-building a Minecraft server. I miss the old one I had.

Last time I hosted it Overzold, which has server on Europe with a good price and performance. The entry-level VPS is fine for a medium-sized Minecraft server.

If you just want it to play a bit and then let it alone, I can run a server on my own computer, which has plenty of power to run a Minecraft server (indeed, at one point while debugging a certain plugin, I had running two servers and three clients, with no lag at all). But I can't have it 24/7 ON, and because I live in Europe, the ping for people in USA would be quite high.

Peekaboo said:
Eh, maybe. But I'd say we'd need for it to be password protected. And maybe *cough* just maybe, make one server only Admin/Privileged status :3

just make it where you have to be privalaged to do any block editing, so only people who can be trusted not to fuck everything up can build, and if someone tries to fuck it up just revoke status and rewind time. I think an e6 minecraft server could be awesome, you could even section off areas for huge projects and stuff. HYPE

Just make it online-mode and let only people who have bought Minecraft enter. When people fear getting banned for life their behaviour is much better.

And also Logblock, so every change is registered and can be undone.

That's three people in three hours. Averaging at one person per hour, you'll have 8765 players by the end of the year because it totally works like that and I'm not on crack right now

If this server becomes a thing, I might have to move "get a better computer" up a bit higher on my to-do list.

The last couple of updates haven't been kind to me at all, and I'm averaging at 2 seconds per frame, no matter what I do. :/

I literally can't imagine what 2 fps would be like.

literally. On a more serious note, try doing stuff like lowering the view distance, disabling antialiasing and disabling smooth lighting.

I have a six year old computer running Vista. Run Optifine, set the graphics to absolute shite, and the viewable distance to pea soup. If it's not running on that, you might be using a 486 :P

With Essentials you can create aliases, so you login with a certain nick, and people see other. I used that to troll annoying users in my server.

Tomorrow after I finish an important test I have I will attempt to get a basic Minecraft server running, and if people like it then I could send it 1:1 to EDFDarkAngel1 so he can get it running 24:7 officially.

By the way, how do you people want it to be? Survival or creative, with or without PVP?

Since e6 is a place with a carrying capacity you can't just use a linear function to estimate the server attendance, under optimal conditions it is most likely going to follow a logistical curve, gaining members on the minecraft server extremely slowly for a long while, then picking up once enough people spread it around. Realistically I think it'll follow a square root curve with it leveling off pretty soon at maybe around 15 players max...Blocky horse dongs will only go so far...

Survival PVP.

Survival PVP? Are you sure? That means that people can kill you and steal or destroy your stuff

I'm not talking about the PVP flag that prevents you from hurting other's. I'm talking about allowing in the rules to kill and destroy stuff (PVP), disallow it (non-PVP), or mixed, having paid protection (with virtual currency)

Believe me, if there's anything I could try, I've tried it. The lowest possible settings, using Optifine, set the priority in the task manager to the highest, closed out absolutely all non-essential programs, all of it. Even if I were to get a playable framerate on that, it would still be borderline unplayable thanks to the tiny view distance alone.

It's not even like I can just go out and get a new part or two and upgrade this thing (for the record, it's a stock Dell Inspiron 530, in a slimline case, from 2009). I mean, I'm not super savvy about this stuff or anything, but the way I see it, if I put in a graphics card, I'd probably need a new processor, the power supply would need to be replaced to handle the new stuff, I'd also need more than 2GB of RAM... and that's assuming I can even find stuff to fit in this slim case and it doesn't create airflow issues, otherwise I'd have to get a bigger case anyway. At that point, I might as well go all in and pick up the rest of the parts, and just have a new computer without having to settle for lesser parts trying to keep everything compatible.

Thankfully, I can at least have Terraria run without any trouble or having to jump through a ton of hoops. <.<

Try running Minecraft from Xubuntu, which is a lightweight Ubuntu version.

Minecraft runs at 1-2 fps on my netbook (Intel N450, GMA3150, 2GB RAM) using Windows 7 x64, and at 15 fps using Xubuntu x64.

I'm definitely running Oracle, though I'll look into Xubuntu and hopefully it helps.

Still gonna put a new computer higher on my list, though. This one is seriously starting to show its age, even when I'm just roaming through Youtube. It's just bogged down with too much junk, I guess. :/
