Topic: Anyone have any hobbies outside the fandom?

Former Staff

I dabble in a lot of things. Mostly because I've kept picking up new hobbies along the years, but never quite lost interest in the old ones.

During the summers, I'm usually out cycling, geocaching or backpacking; combined with nature photography and entomology. Then I spend most of the winter indoors and focus on things like genealogy, programming, studying and animation.

Plus the usual things such as gaming (both video- and tabletop RPGs), reading, movies, anime, comics, listening to music, etc.

I actually have to say I don't do much outside of e621 and playing stalker

You play Stalker, eh? Which one(s)?

All of them; each has a slightly different feel. Shadow of chernobyl is probably my favorite, clear sky is a fun faction based warzone and call of pripyat is fun to play with the mods

Ah, I see. Do you have a fascination with post-apocalyptic themed games and movies in general then? Or do you just love Stalker.

Yes, that's why I also have a shelf filled with metro 2033, 28 days later, (but surprisingly no fallout yet, need to play it) type games and movies

I guess I also make props and costumes and pose them in front of abandoned areas but that's not very noteworthy

You haven't played Fallout 3 yet? You're fired until you find the Republic of Dave.

Make sure to get all the DLCs too. They make the game way better.

The Ultimate Edition is like 2 dollars more than the full version and has all the DLC. Otherwise, you'll never get anally probed.

My hobbies are videogames, papercraft, and some Minecraft skin drawing and doodling.

Updated by anonymous

I mainly create and consume music, talk to myself and play games. Other than that im interested in history, especially the thirty years war and the early baroque times. I also kind of work in that area.
Outside the house i do some fencing (not the sport, the martial art) here and then and watch the clounds.

Updated by anonymous

Same as you except no papercraft and I produce media like songs, cartoons, and I'm a storyboard artist.

Updated by anonymous

Hardcore necroposting

I practice guitar, read, walk/run, harass people with my beautiful voice over phone/voicechat/games, and I used to play LoL up until my computer couldn't keep up with the level of competition my friends and I were at.

I don't do much, but I do them well.

Updated by anonymous

i'd say gaming (video games) but i spend most of my time doing that pretty much every day so i dunno if that'd really count. >.>

got a castle i've been trying to build off and on all on my own in minecraft though. that is a good challenge when doing so in survival mode and no multiplayer (multiplayer lags too much in minecraft for me). been liking that abyssal mod less and less lately though. (Achluophobia + a mod which adds a biome that randomly blinds you, adds realms of darkness, and other dark things is not that fun a mix. heck, the The End dimension in minecraft is enough to scare me away from the game for short periods. :/ can barely even force myself to visit that dark region.) might delete that mod in a bit when i go to work on that castle a bit more.

Fencing, video games, collecting various shizwhiz, mucking with conpooters, getting money, marksmanship...

Used to be a gym rat pumping massive iron but those days are behind me

Updated by anonymous

I hit the gym thrice weekly. I write fanfiction, and I'm actually brainstorming my third story at the moment. I also play video games (mostly Nintendo games on the 3DS and Wii U), play the violin, go to work, listen to music, etc.

Updated by anonymous

I don't really do much in the fandom, honestly -- last furry non-sketch I did was this . Probably because furry is not really a 'thing' to me, it's just a particular group of tropes that can be used as ingredients.
But aside from fandom, I draw a lot, program mainly in Python, write, and occasionally play roguelikes (DCSS, brogue.
Parkour might deserve a mention also.

Updated by anonymous

I want to say archery and piano but I've been too lazy to start either again this summer.

But I do run with one of the dogs every day.

Updated by anonymous

I cook, play video games (preferably rpgs and fighters/hack n slash), Lizard watching (birdwatching but with lizards of course), and on occasion I do enjoy cleaning.

I set thing on fire, eavesdropping on random people's conversations while wearing earphones that can hear outside noise, eating strange foods that an average person wouldn't try, and last one is a bit weird.... I also play video games.

that it one of the weirdest quirks i've ever known of regarding headphones. i have had ear buds for my mp3 player catch noise from other people before as well as noise and music in my larger headphones with the mic built in. i think it has something to do with the signal things use or...something. it's feels a little strange when you could sometimes be playing a game or watching a video and suddenly you hear your neighbors or who knows what else randomly cut in at a MUCH lower volume.

Wake up, eat cereal, go to school, play guitar/keytar/uke/whatever thing makes noise, attempt for like 5 minutes to make music, realize i can't imitate certain sound and give up, practice violin for orchestra, watch youtube vidyas, play vidya games, drink till it hurts, curl up in shower, cry self to sleep. Rinse, wash, repeat.
I also fuck bitches and get money, but that's becoming a rarity nowadays.

Having an account here is the most "in" I am in the furry community. I don't dress up, I don't RP, I don't even draw furries, I just like looking at them. Whoops
So I would just be telling you about literally everything I like to do, and it's quite a lot, so let's just stick with video games. Los videojuegos.

Updated by anonymous

More of an interest than a hobby but I visited my first air show the other day. Definitely going to more in the future.

It's radio interference mobile phone -> audio cable,AFAIK, and you may get it if your cables are not shielded (most aren't). I get it on my speakers (never loud enough to tell what people are actually saying.. more like a super-crappy radio broadcast)

You shouldn't get it with digital audio, FWIW; but only audiophiles care about digital audio AFAICS, everyone else just uses analog.

I play in a band (which is actually my 'job' but I think it still counts), and a few other music related things like composing, sound engineering, etc. I also like to play video games whenever I get the chance.

I like learning about the local flora/fauna (birds, mushrooms, insects, spiders, etc.). I do a lot of bikeriding on nature trails during the weekend.

I read textbooks like other people read throwaway fiction.

I love linguistics (specifically historical linguistics and articulatory phonetics) and delight in discovering minor details that most people wouldn't be interested in.

I'm learning a lot about Ruby, cURL, web servers, etc. right now, but it's partially related to e6 so I don't know if that counts.

I was originally pre-pharm before I went into nursing, so I know a surprising amount about drugs, pharmacokinetics, and interactions. I don't know if I call that a hobby, but I end up spending a lot of time on medscape looking things up in my spare time.

I've been meaning to take up archery; darts don't quite have the same feeling. The closest I've got right now is this. ;_;

It's actually surprisingly accurate for being able to shoot things ~50 feet away.

I'm 25 and I can't afford college and I also don't have the time for it because all I do is work and sleep...and drink to excess.

Maybe drink at the bar near college, I think it's a better idea.

I suffer of poverty :| I can only afford my room.(College is free in Iran :D )

Seriously, I'm wondering to get PhD.

Actually I did go to college for a very short time to classes I couldn't stand going to. My parents would only pay for criminal justice because I said I wanted to be a police officer when I was like seriously 13 so now it's set in stone.

I went for awhile and practically was on my knees begging to take different classes but my parents wouldn't have any of that. So I eventually found out that drinking was funner than going to college and I did that for a few semesters, my parents never gave a shit what grades I did as long as they -thought- I was going to class. I would just shrug, say nothing (why bother) or say I hate it when they asked me how class went. They wanted me to finish it so I could get my associates degree in criminal justice which they thought would help me in other career fields, but they wouldn't listen to reason. :(

SO yeah! Stay in school kids.

@Rusteee:
I went to highschool, and I'm now studying engineering, and my grades are good. & I'm not regretting any of this stuff.

I don't know. Suit yourself. You might like drinking more :|

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that my (recurve) bow has a ridiculous draw weight, so I need to build some muscle just to be able to start using it.

Be sure to work them out symmetrically else you're gonna end up with 1 overly beefy arm from practicing. :V

the same could largely be said about music files in that FLAC format which does NOT improve quality. to this day, i still see no reason keeping any of my music in that format ONLY for it to eat up 4x the space it would as mp3. only thing i have that could even play flac files is the vlc media player i use.

hmmm...could something like going around the internet and pointing out how some mmorpg's (primarity the mmotactics genre) are nothing but broken pay-to-win scams be counted as a hobby? cause i tend to do that whenever i see and check out any new garbage that somehow makes it onto the armorgames site.

i'd do the same over at kongregate but nowadays i typically regard kong as the internets trash heap that only has the rare few gems hidden in the mountains of garbage. no point in complaining here, the kong forums, or to the admin over there though as no one will ever even try to help with that problem and reporting those who perpetuate the problem solves nothing as well. it's sad how badly that site has been flooded with trash over the years.

eh, that's all i'll say here. continuing on about that is probbly best left to a different thread some time.

I trap neighbourhood animals and practice my amateur taxidermy on them.

Nah, there is a point to FLAC. FLAC is basically to MP3, AAC, or OGG as PNG is to JPG; The average viewer doesn't need to care, but if you are modifying the content, yes, you care about getting the best quality original. Because when you start remixing, you necessarily lose some quality.

If you're just -playing- music, use whatever format. As long as it has a decent bit rate, most people can't tell the difference.

If you're the kind of person who uses realtime filtering on their music (I dunno.. these people must exist, since the plugins to do it exist), then FLAC might be relevant, also, for the same basic reason.

I often draw (digital or paper) to improve my skills and spend my time outside to get me through the day. Sometimes I would look up news, watch my aquarium, and maybe play games here and there. Singing is also one of my favorite things to do, gets all the emotions out. I could listen all genre of music, it just depends on my mood.

I play a banjo, I like machining things, driving around, shooting guns. I never get the time to do almost any of that though :(

And I draw dicks. Lots, and lots of dicks.

I like to browse the web for interesting facts and news, listening to music, traveling and talking to interesting people. I recently got a renewed interest in art though.

I'm studying social sciences right now with plans of becoming an analyst or something of the sort.
