Topic: tag invalidation discussion

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

We still have several color tags like purple and brown which aren't in use anymore, yet are still to be invalidated. And with this theme, shouldn't big and small be invalidated as well? Also I never really knew what the riding tag was good for, seems pretty unnecessary. hot is a completely subjective tag and doesn't belong here, but then again I guess it has its uses describing high temperatures (even though it's never actually used for that). Lastly I've been seeing looking_left and looking_right type of tags pop up. Seems pretty useless to me, that and they're already covered under looking_away. So what's your thought on these tags guys?

Bloat for the bloat god! Cruft for the cruft throne!

Err, I mean, let's get rid of bloat tags.

There's no "deprecated" markers for tags, it there?
It could be neat for that kind of situation where a certain tag is known to cause ambiguity, so that whenever someone tries to add it, the sites stops him from doing so and suggests more appropriated tags instead.

Yeah that would be pretty cool. Or when you have an impossible combination of tags like sex and solo or whatever it warns you.

Yeah, someone should suggest that to the oroburos (I know I wrote it wrong, whatever) tracker.
Actually, tag suggestion is probably the only feature I miss not having. Tagging a character should bring you a couple of tags related to it (for instance, tagging "mikhaila" should suggest otter, mustelid, flat_chested and others, and it would then be up to the tagger to decide what can and cannot be seen here).
While it may sound like something that goes against the "tag what you see" rule, I know a lot of newbie taggers are often struggling to find the appropriate tags when they upload content, and such a system could prove useful if used with moderation.

Well, I definitely agree with you about invalidating big, small and hot since they're way too ambiguous to be of much use, unless we keep them as a placeholder of sorts until they're re-tagged with more specific tags (like macro/big breasts, micro/small breasts & heat/in_heat etc. respectively)

Riding seems pretty ambiguous as well, but it's not necessarily a useless tag, since it does convey a specific action
How about turning it into an umbrella tag, and have it implicated to other, more specific tags?
The question is, which tags would it be implicated to if kept

And lastly, all those directional meta-position tags (looking left, looking right, looking up, looking down etc.) could be quite useful in finding a specific image by viewer angle, but things could get pretty ambiguous when you factor in whether or not the directions are taken from the character's perspective, or the viewer's

That could be remedied with some set guidelines & wiki entries though

We have that, click "related tags" when editing an image's tags.
