Topic: might want to be careful with flash till they fix it

Posted under General

i just checked my firefox plugins for updates (before something stupid breaks on me...again >.>) and the page where firefox checks and shows which plugins/addons/etc. need updating has a big red warning saying the following:

All versions of Adobe’s Flash Player plugin are currently vulnerable.

edit: heres a bit more info.

Well, good thing I don't plan on updating Flash.

Everything Adobe creates (apart from Photoshop) has been vulnerable since version 1. The only difference is if there is a known and abused exploit at the moment, or not.

webm wins

If I understand correctly webm is not competition for flash. It doesn't allow any interaction.
Html5 and unity allow to make interactive animations like flash but they are not supported on e621.

True but interaction includes government-sponsored hacker interaction with your computer.

We're sorta secure here, since e621 disallows script access (you can't control a flash animation via script)

As for other alternatives, besides Unity and Flash, there's Java (naw, just kidding), HTML5 (canvas+javascript) and maybe SVG (needs scripting too but I guess it's an option too)
