I did it this way because only one post is tagged tails_the_fox, but since Tails the fox is the more commonly known name, I agree with you.

Tails is merely the nickname

I disagree on a reverse, not just because I'd rather go with the real name. The character is never referred to as Tails the Fox. Miles "Tails" Prower or just simply Tails, but never Tails the Fox.
tails_(sonic) might be a good target for aliases if we're going to go for the nickname.

I disagree with the reverse. Miles Prower is his real name

if you search tails the fox on google you get 11,300,000 results as compared to 480,000 for miles prower. The Wikipedia article for the character refers to him as tails(character) and not miles(character)

Does not matter. We use real names, that's why we aliased grumpy_cat to tardar_sauce.

This.
+1 to tails_the_fox -> miles_prower

Prefer the real name for this one.
I always knew him as Miles "Tails" Prower. In Sonic 2 on Sega Genesis the Casino Night zone even had name tags everywhere that read "Sonic" and "Miles" (not "Tails").

Approved alias -> miles_prower
It's not intuitive to me, but I've gotten used to it by now (and it is probably better than people tagging tails due to a related invalidation).
