MemberActually at that time, it was only 59 years of Godzilla, because the american named "Godzilla, King of the Monsters!" was released in 1956, the first time the name "Godzilla" was used.
The original japanese release, "Gojira", in 1954 was the first release, but the americans changed it to "Godzilla" the following year.
So, "Gojira" was 60 years old in 2014, while "Godzilla" was only 59.
Gawd im such a fucking geek -.-

MemberYou're close. 56 was when the original was distributed stateside. In an interesting twist, while the 2014 movie celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Japanese release, Shin Godzilla in 2016 celebrates the 60th anniversary of the stateside version.
Apparently, a lot of the old movie makers in Toho watched the 2014 movie and were brought to pleasing tears at a "rather accurate" portrayal of such an old icon. Shin Godzilla even makes a small tribute to it with Godzilla's second and third forms sporting pronounced gills to better explain the amphibious nature of the monster.
