In our world, the Dra'Essa go into a second heat-like phase when it is time for them to lay their eggs. The pheromones put off by the female are meant to attract any male of the species to come to their aid (though the intent is for their mate to be ensnared). These pheromones trigger a change in the male of the species. Increasing the volume and viscosity of their semen and even giving it a slight numbing property. This is to aid in the laying process. The heat-like state gets both male and female Dra'Essa worked up. Then they mate ... the act of which helps to induce labor in the female. The aid of the male makes the laying process more comfortable for the female, as well as more pleasurable. They may repeat this process between each egg depending on the time between laying. Unfortunately, while many Dra'Essa will lay between 2 and 8 eggs (4-6 most common), only half tend to survive to hatching and not all of the hatchlings may make it to adolescent.
