Texnatsu Short Story - Casey’s band performing
Regular version and an “x-ray” version because some folks like to see guys in their undies. Story isn’t all that long, and just barely shows their characters, but it’s late and I need to sleep, so it’s more of a scene, than a story.
The group of teenagers crowded around the van, grabbing instruments and equipment and bringing them into he jazz club. They had traveled the whole day to perform at this place for ‘amateur night’.
“GAH, where is my high-hat!” the frantic rabbit guy yelled towards his band mates.
“Did ya check under the seat, Tom,” the fox guy said to him. “Alright, everyone grab something and take it in. Xavier, do we have all the wiring this time?”
“Yep, made sure not to forget it this time, Rick,” the skunk replied.
“Good,” the fox said, “Greg, Casey, you guys have your instruments?”
“Hey man RELAX,” the bear said placing a hand on the fox’s shoulder, “You don’t have to micromanage, we all know what we’re doing, and we all want to do well.”
The fox sighed, “Fine fine, I just don’t want a repeat of last time, remember?”
“Haha,” the deer spoke up, “Yeah, that was embarrassing, our six piece band became a trio, since you guys couldn’t plug into the amps.”
“And I don’t want to be a laughing stock like last time." the fox said.
"I getcha,” the deer said, “Though tell me again why the guitar solo couldn’t be a trombone solo?”
“You do mean a trumpet solo, Casey?” the bear responded in.
“No a trombone solo, Greg. Everyone’s expecting a trumpet or a guitar solo. No one ever expects a trombone solo," the deer replied.
"Well maybe there’s a reason it’s not expected.”
“What’re you trying to say, huh?”
“Guys, neither of you is getting the solo." Rick interrupted.
"Yeah, why do I have to do the solo?” the raccoon said putting his own two cents in.
“Because that’s the way the song goes, Mark” the fox said, “you can’t always be hiding in the back.”
“Well next time, I say we choose a song that has a horn solo." Casey said with Greg nodding in agreement.
"Fine next time, let’s just hurry up and get this stuff set up." Rick said, "We’re not missing curtain time, again.”
The group managed to get everything set up in time for their performance. It was one more step to becoming a legitimate band.
