Guzzle
A personal piece- I wanted to test a quick colouring-related idea. So I drew the same picture I always draw when I want to do a colour test, a fox girl giving a BJ.
I'm starting to get a bit more comfortable with drawing backgrounds these days, but for some reason I've really been having issue with pictures that don't involve a background. After thinking about it for a bit and looking at a lot of other watercolour art, I think I've figured out what I don't like about it... that background wash of colour I usually put in. I started doing it because I didn't like the idea of the stark white background showing up in most of my pictures, but that wash background has been an endless source of frustration for as long as I've been painting. It's just too easy to ruin a picture by picking the wrong colour or accidentally going a bit too dark, or making it a bit too messy, and there's almost never a way to fix it once it goes awry.
I think it might be time to ditch it, and live with mostly white paper in my BG-less pictures. Maybe a small splash of colour, but trying to fill the entire page very rarely seems to look good. To test this idea, I whipped up this picture right quick. I also fiddled with a few other minor colouring ideas, but it shouldn't look too dramatically different from my usual colouring aside from leaving the background white.
I dunno- it works for me! What do you guys think?
