Elliot's Wet Dream

Submitted on: October 13th, 2016

So, this has been a passion project of mine for the last month. Ever since I saw the remake of "Pete's Dragon" from Disney I fell in love with Elliot. Originally I thought this new design that Disney had came up with was not appealing at all. But after seeing him in motion and then ultimately the movie, I really just fell head over heels. He is literally a big puppy dog dragon that you just cant help but wanna hug.

Now, I have drawn Elliot before. In fact I posted that said image on the day the movie hit theaters. But after watching the movie I realized alot of areas I got wrong on the character. Mainly the face was the thing I struggled with the most. This time around I spent damn near a solid week on the face alone. Working with limited reference there was and really trying my best to nail it down to an exact match from the film. All and all by the time I was finished with this image I had clocked in just over 100 hours on this piece. Every single piece of fur is hand painted, I didn't craft a special brush for it. It actually became a really soothing activity to do in the evenings. Just painting fur and tiny details.

Once I was finished I had two versions of the character as well as two ideas for the background. So ultimately I ended up saving four different versions of the pic. Two that showcase just the character without the lighting applied from the background ( mainly to showcase the fur) and two with the background. All and all I loved working on this and really encourage anyone that hasn't seen the movie yet to give it a chance. I am usually not a big fan of remakes, but this one felt like it was a passion project for the director. If anything at all, you will come to love Elliot once you see him moving and interacting within the world :)

As always, I posted all the high res images here on Furry Network. Thank you all for the tremendous support!
