Exactly! I can brush my hair all I want, but it feels like I've done nothing as soon as I move my head a bit. However, the fun starts when I forget to brush it because then I'm not able to do it without ripping half of it in the process.

The only opportunity I have at brushing my hair thoroughly is when I get it wet.

Have you tried splitting it into sections before combing it? I used to have that problem... but then one of my friends mentioned this and i kinda felt like an idiot because it had actually gotten to the point where i just syopped brushing it... >.<
Like... left and right sections... and then brush the bottom first and on up...

on my end, you try combing short curly hair that only turns into a fro combined with 'finger in light socket' not wet and get somewhere, I'd LOVE to have hair that was l-like Warning's >.>

thats why you have to brush/comb curly hair when its wet. If you do it when its dry you get the finger in the light socket fro

I came to an agreement with my curls: I untangle the knots running my fingers through them after bathing with the help of some combing cream, then it does what it wants. 3 years already and it's been working fine :P
