Description
The Roan Antelope, Hippotragus equinus, is one of Africa's largest, reaching 145 cm/4'9" at the shoulder and a weight of 300 kg/660 lbs. Both sexes have horns, which are smaller than those of the related Sable Antelope, Hippotragus niger. Male Sable antelopes are black, but female sables might be mistaken for roans, being a brown colour. But their horns are proportionally longer. Also, roans have particularly long ears with black tufted tips. Roans are rather uncommon. They live in regions with both grass and trees, eating the grass and using the trees for shelter. They're widespread in Africa in suitable habitat. Pencil drawing, coloured with Photoshop.
