I do agree that the comparisons are getting weaker, but this might just be a loud minority, which is sometimes difficult to tell apart from a majority opinion. This goes both for the left and the Ashkenazim (is that a Hebrew plural your using?) you talked about here, or even any other group for that matter.
Because this difference between a loud minority and the majority is sometimes difficult to see, not thinking in groups might be beneficical. That's what I do, and it has given me much more insight into why people believe what they believe, and it has also made it possible for me to point out to people I disagree with what I think they are doing wrong and it at least being respected, if not considered. It's more productive, is what I mean.
