  • Good picture, but ... 3 things.
    1. Bismuth is solid at room temperature
    2. Bismuth is 'basically' silver colored
    3. Bismuth forms colorful crystal structures when it cools down

  • Little known fact about bismuth is that for a while it was considered to be the heaviest element that was not radioactive. This would be later disproven about 15 years ago when it was discovered that bismuth was in fact an alpha emitter and thusly radioactive. However the radioactivity is so low that the half-life of bismuth was calculated to be several times that of the current age of the universe. So in the grand scheme of things it's pretty stable.

That being said bismuth is technically the safest radioactive element one can handle without danger of radiation sickness.

The bottle is labelled (though very faintly so) with the formula for the active ingredient of Pepto-Bismol, a stomach medicine and most common source commercially available to the general public. I hope that cleared up your confusion, have a nice day!

Okay thanks. But what I still don't understand is why the abbreviation and atomic number shown above is only for bismuth when there is a compound of more elements than just bismuth in the bottle.
