April 10th: The bill has been vetoed!
April 2nd: The politicians in Arizona are about to sign into law a bill that would mandate sites like e621 to either impose age verification on all users or be at a risk of lawsuits. Such system would be required to go through third party vendors, who in turn must go through a government database to verify every user's age. This is not only a major violation of privacy, but it also opens up a very real danger of identity theft through phishing schemes and other methods, not to mention that we would not be able to control any of that information to make sure it is permanently deleted after age verification is complete.
Unfortunately, Arizona is the state out of which e621 operates, which means that this law will almost certainly affect us if it is to pass. If want to help us ensure that this site can continue to serve you without being required to know who you are, please ask the Arizona governor to veto this bill.
Please, help us get the word out by letting others know about this issue.
For some further information on what the bill does have a look at https://action.freespeechcoalition.com/bill/arizona-hb-2586/
We still have a Discord server, come talk to us!

MemberLower Decks has its issues but at least it continues the optimistic spirit of Star Trek, as opposed to "Have we mentioned today that the future SUCKS" Picard and the mess that is Discovery.

MemberI spy a "Dick the Birthday Boy" t-shirt, worn by a Fraud no less. I honestly think Red Letter Media would be proud to be referenced in filthy Star Trek porn.
Drakkenfyre
MemberThis. And the series is done by people who genuinely love the source material. There are references, callbacks, and Easter eggs to some pretty obscure stuff that only true fans would get.
Like you said, it has its issues but it's lightyears beyond the grim, dark, grimdark emo cut yourself on the depressing razor of depression that is PIC and STD.

MemberAt least Lower Decks is charming. It's really Discovery and Picard that has lost the spirit of Star Trek.

MemberI don't understand the hate. I love that show!

MemberTo be fair to fourball, he hasn't actually watched Lower Decks, but just saw a bunch of the hate it was getting early on.
He respectfully asked me why I liked the show without any judgement. And one of the reasons I gave him was that it wanted to respectfully poke fun at Trek without breaking it or dividing people with political motivations (I was called an alt-right incel by somebody who'd never talked to me prior because I criticized STD and PIC).

PrivilegedSeconded; I have heard it uttered by self-proclaimed Trek fans that 'true' fans will not like Lower Decks.
Only a casual fan of the more recent Trek Tripe could ever think this; first viewings of Below Decks can be a bit jarring due the manic energy of Ensign Mariner, yet once you can accept her for the bizarre Starfleet gem she really is (Kirkian ass-kicking is strong with her), LD hits stride. The writers do not simply throw out random Easter eggs for fanboy kudos, they seem intimately familiar with their source material, and to genuinely care for it and the show's legacy (albeit with a ... cheeky reverence)

MemberOne of my favorite little things is they got the various tools like hand scanners and whatnot 100% correct to the era. Most shows wouldn't even bother with minutae like that and settle for "close enough." But for most (all?) of the various tools you can pull up episodes of TNG and find every single one of them. Even some that only previously showed up as a tool in the hand of an extra in the background.
KathYohneke
Memberto be fair it isnt like that wasnt always the case. thing is it started with a couple bits here and there in TNG but it really showed that "yeah starfleet ideals have always been hanging by a thread" all throughout DS9.
Really Picard is just the logical conclusion of that.

MemberFor real, nobody show this to Rich Evans. Even though his reaction would be shirt-worthy.

MemberToo many people seem to either not get that it's a parody or don't like the idea of a Star Trek parody in general. But it's their loss.
PandaPorn
MemberFrom what I know, most of the hate centers around Beckett Mariner. She is a very annoying "almost a Mary Sue" type character most people do not like. And many feel she is only there to elevate herself by tormenting the white character, Brad Boimler. Something that would not be tolerated if their races were reversed. To be honest, I would not miss her character was removed from the show.
user 35468
MemberIn reality she's there to offset Boimler. The way they are polar opposites, but still friends.
Imorkret
MemberThey called it way too quickly, cause after the second season Lower Decks is kinda one of the best and most based Star Trek shows.

MemberPeople make internet drama over a fun show, while normal people just watch the parody having a good time
