I really like that Monique's actually not a Karen-y mom, but one that cares and is worried about how good of a mother Kyra will be.

Can I point out that Monique is playing the victim and is acting like she had to be there for Amon but for 19 years she never thought to contact Kyra and say "Hey, you know, we've got a kid" and maybe let her be a part of his life?

I mean, just saying, it all seems a bit "how ya goin"

I get the way she's reacting, but Amon is 19 at this point. Moving out is sorta natural at that age, so I don't know about the "taking away from me" narrative

Amon mentions the previous chapter that Monique Treats him like kid, and that he requires her permission to do anything. With that description in mind, her reaction does indeed make sense.

considering how she first reacted to meeting him, and the fact it was probably a one night stand with Monique
i'd say calling would have just resulted in a "lol okay" from Kyra

Yeah but he called Kyra "Mum" to her face and it freaked her out as she didn't know him. Calling her, at least she'd know about him and could make a choice to be in his life or not.
