Initially, Dragon was intended to have a more meaningful role in the original storyline. She was meant to join the other fairytale creatures as they broke Shrek, Donkey, and Puss out of jail, but she was ultimately cut from the film. The reasoning was that she had too much to say, and it would have been too difficult to hide her pregnancy.
