Not exactly. It's a poor translation in the dub of season three. The actual translation is that digimon have no biology. So they might have a gender, but no sex.

From this video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oGbcHIcnCOc I manage to transcribe "Dejimon ni wa honrai seibetsu arimasen ga." (corrected)

The keyword being "seibetsu" which translates directly to "gender" or "sex" (as in male or female, not as in the act) accordingly to https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E3%81%9B%E3%81%84%E3%81%B9%E3%81%A4#Japanese followed by "arimasen" which means "negative" or "unexistent" from what I understood, at least. "Honrai" seems to mean "originally" or "by default". If anyone could confirm or correct that translation I'd be thankful.

To quote Chiaki J. Konaka (head writer of Digimon Tamers):

"At first, I had a sort of androgynous image in mind for Renamon. Officially, digimon do not have gender; however, many Digimon such as Agumon and Gabumon acted like young boys, and there are quite a few obviously female digimon as well. If anything, gender seems fairly easy to identify in digimon." and "Eventually, Renamon would become Sakuyamon, a very feminine digimon. I thought that I was start Renamon out as a "genderless" digimon, and have that be a large part of its personality."

It could be the intention was for Renamon to start as a genderless character (as in their identity) and become more feminine as the story progresses and their bond with Ruki strengthens.

Edit: That would actually fit really well with the themes the show presents. One of the earliest points in Tamers was that Digimon are just programs born to fight, kill and consume each other, and that the only reason for a Digimon to have a human partner is for it to become stronger. However, through the friendship and love shared between the tamer and its Digimon, the Digimon becomes more humane and flashed out in their own personality and identity.

Sorry I got too deep into it, I know this is just a furry porn site but its really fun to discuss these things with other fans.

    Is that actually true?

    Yes. It has always been.

But i don't understand why someone would downvote you for simply asking a question.

Welp. That's the joy of E621 i guess

Afaik there are only two digimon that are decidedly male and female, and they are the grandpa and granny in the digimon village. I think they appear in season 4?
