The animation is amazing, with lots of little things that bring it all together, but honestly, I find the shader and textures to be more impressive. this artist has found a 3D Shader and texture configuration that resembles the original toon-color scheme from the *good* movies. Often when you have characters originally represented in 2D space be represented in 3D space they look like toy-plastic and when light hits them it makes that effect worse. Whilst these models are still shiny, they don't make me think everyone is a rubber toy and this is just a simplified shader you'd see in a 2D cartoon. The Textures have nice sharp edges in places where it counts and fuzzy (or loose) where it doesn't. As for the scenery, most of it is behind of depth of field which is awesome. gives the feeling of a super complex backdrop whereas it's likely just a floor with a background on the world/projected onto a skybox.
My only 'negative' note is more a matter of opinion, but I think when the 2D SFX comes in when the zebra goes critical it just lessens the mood. feels forced, but it is still done nicely. My suggestion is to use particle emitters and make some in-world effects, but as for the cinematic parts of that sequence, those are fine, seeing Nala's eyes diolate was the best.
Those are all my notes, overall this is a great animation and scene. I'd love to see more of this take on Nala since it looks so damn good.
