ECMajor's Splayed Oryx - colored
By bluedraggy

There's a bit of story behind this one. After I posted my last ECMajor colored thingy, he posted a twitter message - not a rant I'd say, but pointing how how many furry pictures don't really even try to get the texture of fur - but are more like plastic. Again, not really decrying it, just pointing it out. That is definitely me - and tbh intentionally so. Well I made a promise to myself (and ECM) that the next non-scaly I did, I would really try to render it as fur as best I could.

No promises that I'm going to stick to this style, but I did want to challenge myself to see if I could do it. Now tbh, I couldn't do without my butt highlights - but I did try to texture them as well as other highlights to make them more like fur and less like plastic. Anyway, this is the result. I don't think it will be as popular as some of my other less-realistic texture work, but that's not the point. The point was at least to TRY to keep her furry while at the same time not totally losing the stuff that I find ero.

And thus, this splayed Gemsbok by ECMajor that I colored. (I find really don't know my hoofies well enough!)

And also... shadows are really hard to do. Sorry if I failed. The rest I think looks decent enough though and it was all done by hand so there's that.

I like the style, makes me want more angles though lol. I love the proportions, face is great and when I look at it I get a sense of it having fur instead of being flat. The appreciation for the tiny details is always my favorite part.

A hearty "yes" to all of the above.

  • The fact that furries are rarely rendered with a fur texture has always been a little odd to me, especially with how many sticky liquids we deal with as a kind. I for one appreciate the effort and admire the result.

And yeah, shadows and shading are tough. LOL.
