Experiment 597 - Zirconia - Designed to swap out jewels with fakes. Jumba created this experiment knowing that many planets use precious rocks as currency or even power sources, and gave her the ability to create synthetic duplicates of any rock she wraps herself around. On earth, this means lots of fake diamonds! She was with Experiment 504, Bling Bling, trying to get his attention after they were activated, but he wasn't interested in her fake jewels. Lilo taught her to just be herself, and luckily that was impressive enough for Bling Bling! Her One True Place is at Karl Edmonds’ tourist shop, creating cheap gemstones for jewelry.
This is Zirconia! emoluna and I designed her together, but that image in the bottom right is all emoluna. I just colored and cleaned it up a little! emoluna is a fantastic artist, a creative character designer, and a good friend! We’ll collab much more in the future but this was a great kickstart.
Zirconia is activated pensive, uncertain, and easily intimidated. She doesn’t have much self confidence due to an unfortunate incident with Jumba’s ex-wife after her creation. Jumba wanted to please the woman, but he didn’t want to spend money on expensive jewelry, so he used Zirconia, who was happy making fake power sources for Hamsterviel to pawn off at the time. But Jumba’s ex-wife figured out she was wearing fakes, and threw the mother of all fits, and basically traumatized poor Zirconia, who was used to her creator being happy with everything she did.
So when Zirconia was activated on Hawaii, she wasn’t exactly leaping at the chance to make fake goods. That is, not until she caught sight of Bling Bling. She was head-over-tailfins for him instantly, and noticed that he was drawn to ore and sparkly rocks. Bingo! Zirconia was too uncertain of herself to say hi, so she tried to just…awkwardly leave jewels where he could find them and hope he would be pleased. But they weren’t real, and Bling Bling’s abilities showed him that, and he always sniffed and went back to whatever he’d been doing while Zirconia fretted behind a nearby plant, or something. So all the mischief she caused was by accident, leaving her fake diamonds and rubies out in the hiking trails where Bling Bling had discarded them, and getting tourists excited for nothing. That was how Lilo and Stitch tried to track her down. When they did, they saw that Zirconia was just in love with Bling Bling, not focused on evil.

Lilo encouraged her to just introduce herself. Luckily for Zircy, Bling Bling felt the same way about her. He’s been showering her with real jewels and affection every chance he gets.
As stated in Bling Bling’s artwork, Zirconia is kidnapped by 621 in 2030 and held hostage so that he could force Bling Bling to do his bidding, making the renegade cousins’ hideout more fortified with his ore. Eventually Sparky, Trainer, and Splodyhead launch a successful rescue mission, but the happy couple are pretty exhausted by that point.
