A webm created from a badly dithered GIF. This should be a crime against humanity.

    You know, he's not wrong.
Generally WebM's are made to Improve quality, adapting from prior gif/flash versions.
I see no improvement here from the original gif post :/

Sometimes webm versions are created due to people uploading overly long gifs

I'm kinda annoyed by this artist and similar artists where they post goddamn 30 MB GIF files and nothing else anywhere :V

Sometimes they're made just so you can pause.

These are one of the many reasons why so many services straight up convert all GIFs to WebM and/or MP4.

Uploading the original low quality GIF with no alternative formats should be a crime against humanity. This webm is about 25% of the filesize of the original GIF with no discernible difference in quality. It's now quicker to download and view in a browser, easier to share online (assuming mankor is okay with that), and can be paused. mankor could have even kept the original edited source video in higher quality as a webm or mp4 with similar or smaller filesize as the GIF without the awful GIF compression.
GIFs work best for simple drawings or short animations. Longer animations, or images with lots of colors, should be using better formats. (webm/mp4 for video/animations, and jpg/png for still images. APNG is also allows for higher quality animations than GIF, but it's not well supported and may not be as good as a normal video format in some usecases.)
I respect an author's choice to upload files in whatever format they want, but from a technical perspective, he should have uploaded this as a video to begin with instead of an animated image for the reasons listed above.

  • Y'know, even if this is porn I really appreciate the work behind this edits, they are so well implemented that you can't really tell if it's edited or if it's original
