I wouldn't know, but I don't think this is the place to be asking about that either.

AFAIK I think there are were 2 times he chewed out feminism back in the day in his "better days" webcomic so '03. Once in passing and once just straight up. That time he did use a female character's own agency to do it and after she was insulted indirectly by it.

I doubt that makes actually him a sexist (as it would set a low bar for it) but more of a conservative values sort of thing that probably come across better in context but it is worth mentioning that some of his values have noticeably changed and he is a lot less vocal about stuff.

I don't know if it's actually a "downfall", I suppose it depends on one's point-of-view, but Beth meets a guy through her girlfriend-with-benefits, Trixie. Beth's I.U.D. had needed to be removed but hadn't gotten a replacement yet, and things happened. It wasn't a planned pregnancy, and Beth is surprised because she was over 40, but she seems to decide to keep it.

There's also a page or so in the comic where Beth's older sister laments never having been able to have a child, after several failed marriages, and suggests that Beth would probably be happier having the opportunity to raise a kid.

  • I love that Beth is preggo but I absolutely hate how she ended up pregnant. Why Jay did that to one of my favorite character from his comics?

Thaaaat's not good. The risk of having children with birth defects increases dramatically around the 30 year mark. It's why women have been traditionally encouraged to get married and start a family very early in life. It's not entirely a sexist oppression thing, but a fact of the matter that the biological clock is ticking.

I'll need some sources for that, 30 doesn't seem that old and generally at that age the mother is financially more independent and could plan her life better.

If you're looking for sources, the topic is brought up quite frequently in videos and articles talking about women putting their family lives on hold while they focus on their careers. Once a woman reaches her 30's, the risk of having a child with birth defects begins to escalate dramatically over the years. If you're a woman and you're 35 years old, just give up any hope of having a healthy kid, unless you're planning to adopt.

Information like this is what many strong advocates of the feminist movement neglect to tell their followers, waiting for them to learn about it the hard way. Some members of the movement have even voiced having regrets about their decisions. Turns out, spending your 20's fucking any guy who catches your interest and waiting until your biologically unsuitable to have a child before finally getting married doesn't provide you much opportunities in the relationship department.

As for the women being more financially secure, statistics show that most women who focus on their careers end up quitting within the first 5 years, because they can't handle the stress. Equal pay requires equal labor, but they can't keep up with their male coworkers, so they decide to bow out.

I can agree that someone in their 40's would have more issues with pregnancy than some in their 20's but I don't get why you're bringing up the "Information like this is what many strong advocates of the feminist movement neglect to tell their followers" there? What does it have to do with feminism and how "many" are neglecting that info?

If a gal want to sleep around (as long as both parties are protected and consenting) it's her life, she does what she want with it and marriage isn't mandatory.

And what sources do you have about the "end up quitting within the first 5 years"? Maybe the glass ceiling is for something?

Anyway it's just a furry porn pic about a pregnant woman and to be honest I really hated the comic because he kinda abused her. I like preggo stuff (well mostly solo pic) but the context behind is just awful...

Its hard to answer that question without getting too political as the babies on this site(mods), can't handle those types of conversations here.

All I can say is, Beth was more self-aware and practical as a teen, than as a 40-year-old. Her decision making has pretty much gone down the crapper which, is sad. Another Naylor female character that got.... more imprudent with the passing of time. Almost like The Simpsons, Southpark or Family Guy, she's at best, a caricature of her former self

Yeah, I know it's their life. And yes, they're free to do with it as they will. If they have no intention of raising a family or getting married, that's entirely their business.

The point I was getting at is that by the time such women get it all out of their system and are ready to finally get involved with a committed relationship, they're at a point in their life where most guys aren't interested in them anymore. The feminist movement encourages the young and impressionable girls who are going through their rebellious phases to effectively run wild, without allowing themselves to be tied down to any man, or societal expectations based on gender. Then they grow up, finally think about starting a family, only to realize that they waited too long. Their sex appeal has started to fade, their ability to have healthy children is rapidly declining, and their reputation around the dating scene has effectively been ruined.

When it comes to marriage, men aren't looking for middle aged, burnt out sluts to spend the rest of their lives with.

Once again, this isn't a sexist thing, it's a biological fact. The female body is operating on a deadline, and if they have any interest in the married life, they need to start early before time runs out.

    --------------------

But this is getting off topic. As you say, this is a furry porn pic. It's meant to elicit fapping, not gender-political discussions.

  • Many of Naylor's character are flanderized... and that's quite a feat considering how pornos are supposed to have simple stories with bidimensional characters.

No one has to tell you what your body does. It is up to each and every person to do the research on health. And yes you can have a healthy child over 35. Hell I have already saw that when the lady remarried and had a husband. Child was fine. In some ways had better outcome as far as I had seen. You are being hyper and tying your personal political beliefs to science and that tends to not work out. Let everyone life there life and be happy as they can make it with their philosophy/beliefs/religion. I am sorta US constitutional that way.

Pretty much everyone is called a sexist these days. No the artist is an artist generally it's never found to be conducive to censor an art or form of expression due to differences in opinion

Man, it's been YEARS since I read Better Days, but from my limited knowledge, Beth was a nomadic traveler type of character, sailing the world on her boat. So naturally an unplanned pregnancy would be a cinder block thru her window since it pretty much signifies an end to personal freedom, If you don't get an abortion that is.

I also like to think that she stayed in the nudist colony to raise the kid. She's got more support and friends there who can help her than anywhere else.

  • Why furry porn has to be that complicated? I mean I love the idea of impregnation and pregnancy but in furry porn accidents don't happen.

Why wasn't this comic noncanon? And why was it that guy who happened to fuck her when she got to sleep with her friend?

Why couldn't it have been a simple 3some with some girl on girl action?

    I am really confused.

Yeah, saying that women over 35 should give up hope of having a healthy child is an absurd exaggeration. My mother was also older than that when she had me. The risk of birth defects does go up significantly as the mother gets older, but they never even get close to being more likely than having a healthy baby.

Personally a guy deciding what a woman should do with her body is a huge red flag to me. She is the one ultimately deciding when to get a child.

Also this kind of talk about "you must have a kid before XX year or else there are chances to see a defect" sounds awfully eugenicist to me (that's the kind of thinking that Brave New World had).
