This IS their current ages.

Years Sonic has been around =/= his age.

Sonic has never been stated to be any older than 15, Tails is still 8, Knuckles is still 16.

I'm pretty sure that Sonic is 13 when Tails is 8, and that Knuckles is 15 when Sonic is 13. Cream and Rouge seem about right.
