News: Feb 26, 2025 Show

Feb 26th:A new bill in Arizona is making its way through the Senate that would force sites like e621 to implement mandatory age verification for all users—or face potential lawsuits. This system would require third-party vendors to verify every user’s age through a government database. Not only is this a massive violation of privacy, but it also introduces serious risks, including identity theft through phishing schemes and other malicious methods. Worse still, we would have no control over ensuring that user data is permanently deleted after verification.

Since e621 operates out of Arizona, this law would almost certainly impact us if it passes. If you want to help ensure that we can continue serving you without being forced to collect personal information, we urge you to contact Arizona’s senators and ask them to vote NO on this bill.

Please help spread the word about this issue and encourage others to take action.
Further information on the bill itself can be found at the Free Speech Coalition: https://action.freespeechcoalition.com/bill/arizona-hb-2112/

Jan 7th: Small update to the Uploading Guidelines today: We now no longer allow paintovers of AI generated content. Or in other words AI generated content that has been edited to some degree by humans.

We still have a Discord server, come talk to us!

    • MP4 is literally just bad conversion from the GIF version.
    • GIF version is exact same loop animation looped three times, making the filesize three times larger than it needs to be.
    • Artist additionally ran the animation through DAIN, introducing smearing morphing artifacting and doubling the filesize from already large.
    • They take that GIF version and downscale it immensily to FA 10MB limit with Gdrive links to the massive versions which are prone to going 404 because the content breaks their ToS heavily.

I'm basically speechless at this point.

I don't know how to save the animation as an MP4 in photoshop, since it breaks every time I try. I normally make the GIF the same animation looped more than once because of the characters eyes blinking, although this time it was unnecessary.
Additionally, I run the animation through DAIN because i don't know how else to interpolate the animation/increase the framerate, these are animated in photoshop rather than a motion tweening software.
And yes i should choose a different place to upload the files for these

I don't use Photoshop so I don't know, I import and export as PNG image sequence in GIMP.
That still doesn't make MP4 converted from GIF any better, that's pretty similar to when I found soundtrack as FLAC and it turns out it was some random ripping the audio from youtube and converting AAC into FLAC, which defeats the whole purpose of why I wanted FLAC file to begin with.

One main problem is that our guidelines disallow upscaling and AI material, both which DAIN is doing. Doing interpolation on already rendered material is always icky and prone to artifacts, pretty sure photoshop wasn't designed for that and basically everyone would tell to move the file into After Effects instead.

Mostly just stating that I have seen so many dead gdrive links that it would not surprise me if year from now it was no longer available, but that's problem with basically all external filehosts. Most animators used to use mixtape.moe but that's dead and files destroyed and nowdays seem to use catbox.moe instead.
Personally highly recommend Newgrounds, proper video hosting, GIFs I think was up to 150MB for some reason and allows pornographic furry content.

I normally try to remove the artifacts after interpolating, but I left a couple pretty bad ones for this animation. Alternatively i could just not interpolate the GIFs, however thats up to whether or not people prefer low framerate but no artifacts vs. high framerate with some artifacts

They booed you because you spoke the truth.

It may have just been the mannerism of the critique, personally I don't mind it.

If what's listed above is a problem for people, then I just wont bother interpolating the animation and I wont bother converting the GIF into an MP4 version

I think the interpolation works well here.

Mario is one of those e6 mods that complains if a image has a missing pixel

It could have been a video that's less than 1MB, while looking MUCH better. Heck maybe even 200KB if encoded properly.
GIF is something that should ONLY be used if you have a few flat colors, unlike here where you end up with a bunch of noise (dithering) aswell as extreme banding.
Also interpolating should not be forced on the end user. If someone wants a higher fps version, they can do it themselves. Atleast in this case, we get an option, but there are many cases where people don't.
Interpolation is something that currently only works in some very niche cases. This is not it. And people tend to not bother quality controlling things they feed through AI as they expect it to just magically make things better.
And Mairo is right about the filesize too. The "Higher quality downloads" of the gif is not just double, it is 5.37x the filesize, for something that looks worse. Plus like Mairo said, it doesn't need to repeat 3 times. Almost every player has a loop feature.
Don't even bother with DAIN garbage... Use RIFE if you absolutely want to interpolate, the results are a LOT better.
    Here's a comparison https://imgsli.com/MTU5ODgy
    Just look at those hands...
If you're going to ruin an animation, atleast do it with something that's atleast somewhat up to date. (RIFE is also significantly faster than DAIN)
Also he's using default CRF 23 for the mp4 version. Yikes.
But the biggest sin is obviously it being a GIF to begin with.

Then simply google how to fix it, or try re-installing photoshop. There's a ton of information out there and you can't be the only person who's had that problem.
With the looping thing, if you were to export as a video, it wouldn't have been a problem. But when converting a gif to a video, it tends to disregard the delays on each frame in a way, meaning last frame won't show. To solve this, duplicate the last frame.
As for interpolating, simply don't. Other artists manage without it, so can you. Don't ruin good art just to have a higher framerate. Let the end user do that if they want.
Make sure that if you upload somewhere, that you always keep the original files. Any hosting site can and will take down your stuff eventually. Also Catbox which Mairo suggested, seems to only last like 3 years or so, just so you keep that in mind. And it renames everything, unless you zip them.

Watch me get downvoted just like Mairo for wanting decent quality porn. I'm sorry that I'm not on a shitty phone like the rest who can't even tell the difference.
We live in 2023 guys, not the 90's. Our technology has advanced an insane amount, but so has the amount of overly sensitive people who can't take criticism.
