Yeah I think I remember hearing about this kind of thing where veterinarians have to do this every once in awhile. Not in any sexual way either, but you have to do it for something. I just don't remember what. I remember watching an episode of jackass and they did it to a cow. I want to say it's for insemination... For breeding purposes, or something, again not in the sexual way, it's like when you crossbreed horses or across breed livestock or something. But I don't actually remember the details, or know for sure if I'm correct.

It's a pregnancy check. They're feeling the uterus through the anal wall for a fetus or a sac. It's the cheapest way to check.

Hmm transrectal palpation (checking for pregnancy through the rectal wall) that's a new one to see here. I'm a vet tech and this is the absolute worst thing to do. Last season I took a kick square to the chest lucky I didn't break a rib, gnarly bruise though.
