Electrolight wasn't exactly experienced in non-urban environments. He'd lived his whole life in the city, and he was familiar with it. Where to go to keep warm, or to keep dry, where to go for food, what convenience stores would most of the time let him just steal a sandwich or something rather than have him officially rob the place and blow up the lights with his electrical powers. But Dr. Armatai had gotten tired of always running into traps and kidnappers and stuff, and she'd figured that having a supervillain already on her side would maybe keep her safe on her next expedition.

And Electrolight liked her. Like, liked her, liked her. He was trying real hard to do a good job for her, not get distracted by stuff. And weirdly... it was a lot easier to pay attention out here. There wasn't a city all around all the time full of buzzing wires full of electricity. Just him and her and a bunch of plants and things and a bunch of old ruins.

And maybe if he did a good enough job, she'd let him come with her again. Or at least he could make sure she found all the old archaeology stuff she was looking for, and then... well, then he'd have helped her, and he'd feel good about that.
