    Try handwriting in Microsoft IME, but I suppose this will require a proper order and direction of the strokes.

    *Google Translate (try to use somewhat proper stroke order)
    *Denshi Jisho word search (replace the kanji(s) you don't recognize with a '?' or '*')
    *Denshi Jisho kanji-by-radical (for real chicken scratch (e.g. post #437379, post #457050 ), when Google Translate is being stupid, or if you're still getting the hang of stroke order. It will show proper stroke order in the results)

    just ask the artist to type the text in their language(not allways Japanese) and then put it into goggle translate
