"No more wire hangers" comes from an old movie called Mommy Dearest. It's about an abusive movie actress and her daughter --I can't recall, but it think she was adopted-- the mother has bipolar disorder and occasionally beat her children. In that particular scene, the mother is already established to have fine tastes, so wire hangers are trashy to her. Iirc her husband had just told her that he was leaving, so the mom took it out on the daughter. Then that blew over into them cleaning the bathroom. It was a whole thing.
