Cant tell for sure. Not very familiar with Alien backstage, it's sounds like something they may consider.
I just remember all those Giger art, I saw long time ago. It have dicks, dicks in asses, devices that looks like woman getting fucked in mouth, lol. So it's possible.
There also was some Dune concepts, that also have phallic imagery.

I think it also just makes sense story and biology wise. That's literally a reproductive organ so it just looks like what it is. It is hilarious that they call it a "proboscis" , I guess to not get censored? A proboscis is either a mouth or nasal extension, which is not what that's for.
