News: Feb 26, 2025 Show

Feb 26th:A new bill in Arizona is making its way through the Senate that would force sites like e621 to implement mandatory age verification for all users—or face potential lawsuits. This system would require third-party vendors to verify every user’s age through a government database. Not only is this a massive violation of privacy, but it also introduces serious risks, including identity theft through phishing schemes and other malicious methods. Worse still, we would have no control over ensuring that user data is permanently deleted after verification.

Since e621 operates out of Arizona, this law would almost certainly impact us if it passes. If you want to help ensure that we can continue serving you without being forced to collect personal information, we urge you to contact Arizona’s senators and ask them to vote NO on this bill.

Please help spread the word about this issue and encourage others to take action.
Further information on the bill itself can be found at the Free Speech Coalition: https://action.freespeechcoalition.com/bill/arizona-hb-2112/

  • oh, cool, I'd actually already been thinking about poppies recently, so I'm just going to go on a tangent before actually looking into their symbology proper.

I was think about them partially because the prior to knowing what the the agonias, poppies were one of the things that I'd considered since golden poppies are also yellow (more often orange, though) and have 4 petals, and partially because someone had brought up something totally unrelated to this which made me think about another peice of media with poppies in...
specifically Wizard of Oz, in which the poppies are deceptively dangerous. just looking like normal flowers, the protagonists of the story start to pass through a huge field of them as a shortcut towards the Emerald City, what they don't realize until it's almost too late is that the poppies release a strong poison that will knock out and eventually kill anyone who remains too long.
might be an intentional thing with poppies being Pinkie's flower, with her having a similar deceptive nature, although it might also be a coincidence. either way, too weird to not bring up.

    ---

anyway... on to what the internet thinks poppies mean.

    ...

    oh, okay.

I guess I shouldn't be too surprised that those were in there. Wizard of Oz probably got it's ideas from somewhere.

let's see if there's anything else I can see that's notable.

    ...

"Lively imagination". I mean, that's just normal Pinkie, right there.

oh, "Messages delivered in dreams", that's an interesting one we have had quite a few symbolic dreams featured so far, both from Pinkie's and Dash's perspectives. also from what we've seen from her, Pinkie might be having hallucinations in which she speaks to the agonias, that's kinda like messages from dreams.

(also it seems like most of the symbology for this flower can just be explained by "because opium")

  • Well this looks incredible already and I can already see that Pinkie is looking towards us as she always does a lot of times with breaking the fourth wall and all that stuff too. Symbolizing sleep, peace and death is really interesting as Maud said that Pinkie Pie liked to sleep a lot at the rock farm and in Ponyville too. I'd also like to point out that it's Pinkie's Pride and not Agony which is cool to note. Poppies being able to release stuff from them that puts living things to sleep seems to be interesting as well with Pinkie sleeping a lot. This has been amazing seeing these kinds of pictures with the Mane Six and flowers symbolizing each and every one of them too.

In the original Cupcakes, a demon possesses Pinkie, This could be related to her having these "hallucinations"

  • I'd like to add my hat in the ring on what the yellow flowers might be based on. At least shape wise and the like. Buttercups. They're yellow and have ones of a similar shape. Plus from what I've seen from the internet, their meaning seems to very much emphasize it being childlike. Which she still exhibits her child-like wonder as a mask to what she has become. Plus they're related to the poppies so, yeah.
