From what Assault taught me, those are conveniently imprecise.

My guess is delivery drones. Vacuum tends to keep stuff warm for a while.

Woeful as they may be, they're surprisingly useful. It allows an author to rectify some, ignore or retcon others, and create several significantly different alternate universes. It may, with an awful lot of effort, even be possible to create a hard sci-fi AU that makes a modicum of sense.

No, that's the part that's too simple.
The part that's too complicated is the inevitable attempt at rewriting the entire Star Fox canon up to this point to work with the lowered technological level and smaller size of established universe.

(In response to some old comments) I don't think it's that complicated. They're probably on vacation planetside, not onboard the great fox. Heck, this could possibly be during their time in academy, before the games take place.
