Neit closed the wooden shuttered door of the Mountain Sage Travelers’ Inn, her back to the door before taking a slow, tense and deep breath, eyes closed. She did not manage to even keep her hands on the pendant she tried to nab before the guards were called. She had been out of the game for too long obviously, but that gleaming bauble was just too much of a temptation. At least she’d slipped away without the guards getting close enough to identify her. She opened her eyes finally to look over to the bar.

Standing no more than three feet away was Lunaris, Captain of the guard. Neit’s heart sank. Leal, one of his officers, grinned as he stood behind him. One or two unfamiliar faces were there in the tavern as well. Before she could even speak, she found herself suddenly gripped by the back of the neck and pulled several steps forward before being forced rather abruptly chest first onto a low table. Lunaris growled in a deep tone.

“Forgetting our promises, Neit?”

“A tiny trifle! She’d not have even missed it!” the thief protested. Her companionship with this strong wolf had required she give up that old life for one she enjoyed in his company, so being caught like this was ruinous. She was pushed down a little tighter to the table, and gasped as Lunaris hooked a thumb into the back of her shorts and drew then rather blatantly down her toned backside. She cried out, “N-no, wait! Here!? Lunaris I do have some reputation!” she barked. He grinned down at her as Leal approached to take in the view.

“You won’t even miss it.” Lunaris rumbled, barely more than a low and growling whisper.
