"Awkward Call" Page 7 - by EWS

Nick might have wished he didn't ask his question after this.

Some of my favorite Nick facial expressions on this page.

  • Is he kidding? These are her parents he is talking about. Does he even have any idea what parents are like with their girls going out with guys especially when it is most likely someone they might disapprove of?

  • When I'm having conversations like on what's going on here, puts me in a HUGE uncomfortable spot.

    I can relate to this.

Who cares what her parents may say? But to quote someone I heard once; "Letting your daughter go to her first date feels like giving over a bag of 1M golden dublons to a complete stranger".

Man, Judy's being a dick. Why would she even date him if she's ashamed of it?

I do believe it's not shame. I believe it's more a fear of what the world around her may say. Like come on, a bunny and a fox? Together? Imagine the kind of reactions that would spark. Now, I come from a country in which that kind of stuff would get you shunned. Judy originates from the countryside, and in some regions, even small errors and mistakes can result in people freezing you out. If Judy's neighbors and friends are like a lot of people on the countryside that I've heard about, her being together with Nick can have disastrous consequences. Not just because they may shun her and freeze her out completely, it could also spell the end of her family's farm because the other bunnies may no longer want to have anything to do with them.

So yeah. Fear yes. Shame, not really.

Yeah not sure what kind of parents you have but nothing is worse then a girl or guy going out with someone they disapprove of especially when you are used to listening to them or have a good relationship with them. So although you say who cares I am sure Judy does. Why do you think they always want you to meet their parents? So they can get their approval.

My point still stands. If she truly cares about someone others might feel shocked about she wouldn't be so afraid.
There's a lot of LGBT prejudice for example but does that stop people for being with their loved ones? Of course not. You shouldn't live your life for other people. If they have a problem with that then they can go fuck themselves.

  • Well, it just makes me think more and more which level of difficulty that Zootopia creators come when they begin to make a sequence knowing that most will want the two together in a relationship. In thinking a way that pleases the conservative majority and the unfortunately minority would like to see the limits that this archaic society but evolving be broken without losing the magic that the first film made us feel. :/

  • It seems like the last few posts have seen nothing but downvotes on a majority of the comments. I wonder what's going on here...

On Imgur, we call them downvote fairies. They come out only during the witching hour to sprinkle upon the heads of the users many downvotes for which there are no reasons or rhymes.

I do agree with you on that, but judging by all too many examples from my country, Judy has a lot at stake here. Sure she may care about Nick, but at the same time she also cares about her parents. They may accept Nick for who he is rather than what he is, but it's not automatically guaranteed that if they accept Nick, the local community will. Like I mentioned in my previous comment, if Judy were to make her relationship with Nick known to the public, it could be devastating to not only herself, but also her entire family. There have been cases I know about in which small communities have shunned entire families because of one small "error", which can be something as common as homosexual relationships. And I'm not talking those cases in which the families where chased to the village border and shunned physically like they did 100years ago, I'm talking about instances which extends well into the last decade. Her family, her and theirs very legacy and future, it may all come crushing down because of her decision. Imagine that 274of your siblings are shunned by all their friends and maybe even close ones. You know it's not your fault, but you know that all that stems from a decision you made. That's a very difficult prospect for someone to shoulder, even in a civilized community like Zootopia. Wether or not this is the real reason why Judy is so skeptical when it comes to telling her parents about Nick, it makes her dilemma all more precarious.

Or maybe people are just finding the majority of comments to be rather pointless or facepalm-inducing.

    Shocking, I know.

It's very rare for a downvote fairy to reveal itself. This is a wondrous day indeed!
