Red Princess - p4

<<< PREV | FIRST | NEXT >>>

Page 4. This page focuses more on her religion side of things. A brief explanation of deities and order etc. And ass/back shot.

As usual, the full thing will be posted here during this week at one page/day, but you can buy it from my E-Junkie store too, including unused sketches, HD pages and more: http://www.e-junkie.com/fluffkevlar/product/511402.php

'Red Princess' is a short, 6-page character spotlight comic funded by my Patreon supporters, focusing on Ayn Miyur, Princess of Siania. The idea behind this was to flesh out her personality, thoughts, relationships, and a little bit of backstory, to push her as a more whole, 3 dimensional OC than just eye candy, though she is that, too.

While Patreon helps fund it, I always want to post my stuff free later to those who can't afford to support me monetarily. Comments, sharing and other stuff helps too! Thank you for all the forms of support!

  • Y'know, princess, if you're this bored and cynical with all your expositive narration, you don't have to say it all at once. You can take a break, get a drink, show us some more of that exotic dancing...maybe talk to someone else in your world about it who might have a different perspective on events and your society?
Just feels like I'm inconveniencing you, is all.

Hahah, that'd actually be a pretty funny idea, I'll have to keep that in mind! Her narrating but getting bored with it, passing it off to someone else.

Well, to be honest, I'd almost prefer that to how you've handled the narration so far. Don't get me wrong, this seems like an interesting world, and you obviously have some complexity to this character, it just feels like a slog when you front-load all of this information before any story's really happened. It's like we have twelve pages of exposition squeezed into four, and that doesn't make it easy to get invested in this character when we're rapid-firing through her personality traits.

You're showing me a princess/avatar/stripper/pouty Gen-Xer and directly telling me what she thinks about herself, and while the visuals are nice, it's all just information. There's a character and a setting, but I'm not sure what story you want to tell yet. Am I making sense?

Yeah, and I probably could've handled this all really differently. It's too much info squeezed in, like you said. But I can't exactly go back and change it or undo it. There is no story to this comic, it's quite just that; information. At least it helped me understand better how to do her actual story when I get around to it.

I see. Well, thank you for being up front with it so I don't get salty waiting for something that's not your intention. Thanks for answering, and I fully understand that comics are a difficult medium to balance the show and the tell. For what it's worth, I know you have no problem making a good story when you want to, so I'm sure it'd turn out well.

As it stands, though, I think I'll pass on this for now. Sometimes I gel with characters and sometimes I don't, and this is just one of the times I can't.

  • I know we have a lol_comments tag but the exchange above is actually something really nice to see, quite the opposite of that tag. Maybe there should be a tag for the occasional bright spot in the comments? Friendly dialogue with constructive criticism between an artist and a consumer of that art. Warms the heart.

Also there's an anus in this image. Hooray for anuses!

    Love your work Fluff-Kevlar.

  • So is this an on going comic because from these mini comics and all the questions about the characters I find it hard to believe this is not something bigger.
