"Ancient art", in the context of e621, applies to any art made before 1980.
While depictions of anthropomorphic animals can be seen throughout all of human history, the term "Furry" as it pertains to a fandom around anthropomorphic characters originated around 1980-1983, with the fandom coalescing during the 1980s. Therefore, anything before that decade is considered "ancient".
