Meta: alpha channel
When an image has transparent or semi-transparent pixels — if the background is transparent, it should also be tagged as transparent background.
In simple terms, the alpha channel stores information that handles pixel transparency in an image. PNG and GIF are the most common image formats that use the alpha channel. In thumbnails, a post that uses alpha channel transparency will display a solid black space where the transparent pixels are.
