Firebrand is a Red Arremer, a demonic gargoyle species from the Ghosts 'n Goblins series by Capcom. Though his species were originally just an enemy type in Ghosts 'n Goblins, their popularity later introduced him as the main character of the Gargoyle's Quest spinoff series, which includes Demon's Crest as the third installment. He would also appear as a playable Capcom fighter in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite.

Although Firebrand is the most commonly drawn example of his species, he is not the only example in the franchise. There are four variants of generic Red Arremer enemies appearing in various games. On the original case art for the first Gargoyle's Quest on Game Boy, Firebrand is depicted as green instead of red. In the next game, his model was changed to the more commonly recognized red skin, with bluish-grey wings.
