History: Carinae is one of the oldest guardians, both with age and length of servitude. She well predates the fallout of Tokoyami, the event which forced the onene underground as the cluster of islands was coated in soul ash, making the area a hotbed for corruption spawn-- soul ash composing the outer husk of corruptions. While the ash had spread to numerous places, the small size and remoteness and Nimbus made it more dangerous to be there than in many other places. Having discovered a cave network initially used for resources, they fled and sealed themselves away, possibly to never see the surface world again.

But Carinae was from the surface world, having been born and grown in the settlement of Sancia, a small place within the caldera of Nimbus' main island. The caldera held a massive freshwater lake and a beached tropical forest around the lake. As a child she would go out to the beach at night, or even take a small boat to go out on the lake just to watch the sky at night as it reflected off the lake. Carinae's original eye color, seen in the feral form, show the color they once were so long ago-- the same deep indigo as the night sky bouncing off the Eramita lake.

Upon the push underground, Carinae returned to Nimbus only once for the sake of saying her goodbyes, as she could not stand the idea of sitting around and doing nothing while their home, and the world around them, were laid to waste and decay. She did not return, but upon departure she sowed seeds on the surface world, hoping that those seeds would find some way to grow and return the tiny region to what it once was. Carinae sought her answers from the outside world, traveling wherever her feet could take her, before stumbling upon one of Kumo's many traveling circuses and later befriending that circus' iteration of the wraith. Carinae traveled with the circus for many years, trading off to other iterations every so often and starting where she left off from the previous, seeing just what happened to the world at large and helping out the members of the circus where she could by making clothes, making food, or just telling stories.

Much later in the game she had a strange nagging feeling from Yami regarding the seeking of a host, but with the knowledge of what it could mean if the host was found by Tokoyami before they could realize their potential. Armed with this, Carinae gave Kumo a very strange request: to serve as her Keeper, but to also take her to where the "real" Kumo was. Impressed, Kumo agreed and housed Carinae in the Other Realm with the real Kumo. When Yami sought out what seemed like the perfect host, Carinae refrained, sensing an extremely abnormal amount of negative energy from the sought host...enough negative energy to form the basic foundation of a soul. Carinae instead sent a soul to the being and monitored its progress for the next 26 years, waiting for when the two could finally meet under better circumstances.
