Species: merlion
The merlion is a half-lion, half-fish creature that is the subject of an iconic statue and unofficial mascot of Singapore. The creature represents Singapore's origin as a fishing village back when it was Temasek (Javanese for "fishing village") and also the city's original name, Singapura ("lion city").
The statue itself currently resides in Merlion Park fronting Marina Bay. The Japanese rank it with the Little Mermaid of Denmark and the Manneken Pis of Belgium as one of the "Three Major Disappointments of the World".
