Species: saluki
The Saluki is a standardised breed of dog, developed from sighthounds – dogs that hunt primarily by sight rather than scent – used by nomadic tribes to run down game animals. It is closely related to the Afghan Hound, and is deep-chested, and long-legged, but with much shorter fur than the Afghan Hound.
The Saluki has incredible running speed. While the Greyhound is credited as being the fastest dog for up to 800 meters, the Saluki and Whippet are thought to be faster for longer distances. Its heavily padded feet allow for remarkable stamina as they are able to better absorb impact on its body.
