kaomoji
Kaomoji (顔文字) is a Japanese emoticon style often incorporating unicode to create complex facial expressions or interactions. Kaomoji can be recognized easily from normal emoticons by the presence of brackets or other symbols to frame the face instead of just an expression. ASCII art can be seen as a form of kaomoji. Faces drawn in a lined in style, but not necessarily composed as separate symbols may also qualify as kaomoji.
Not all kaomoji feature unicode. Look at the Kirby dance as an example: <('-'<) ^('-')^ (>'-')>
Not to be confused with
- emoji - Fully rendered facial expressions depicted as smiley faces. Kaomoji are formed with simple lines and are often only a single color.
