September 4 is National Chilean Wine Day. Created in 2015, it celebrates Chile's wine history since, in 1545, Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia wrote to King Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor at the time, asking for "vines and wines to evangelize Chile". Since then, winemaking has become a major industry in the country.
